Jessica Lewis Qualifies For World 100m Finals

jessica lewis bermuda[Updated with video] A big performance from Bermuda’s Jessica Lewis in this morning’s [July 24] heats has seen her qualify for the 100m finals in the World Championships in France.

Taking part in her second race in the 2013 International Paralympic Committee World Championships, Lewis clocked a season best 18.56 to qualify for the finals, which will be held tomorrow afternoon.

In what will mark the first ever appearance by a Bermudian sprinter in the Paralympic World finals, the 20-year-old will match up against athletes from China, Japan, Australia, Switzerland and the United States.

Lewis — Bermuda’s sole representative at the IPC World Championships — competed in the 200m T53 semi-finals on Saturday [July 20], finishing 5th in heat #2 clocking a new season best of 33.95.

Lewis will also hit the track on Friday [July 26] where she will compete in the 400m. Scheduled to run until July 28, 2013, the IPC Athletics World Championships are being held in Lyon, France, drawing more than 1,100 athletes from 99 countries around the world.
