Man Admits Shopping Spree Using Stolen Cards

February 24, 2014

In Magistrates Court this morning [Feb 24] a 24 year old man pleaded guilty to stealing two credit cards and then going on a five day local shopping spree that saw him obtain goods worth over $12,000 .

Malik Cann pleaded guilty to over 20 charges, and was remanded into custody by Senior Magistrate Archie Warner who set sentencing for 28th April, and ordered a new Social Inquiry Report.

Cann’s activity began with the theft of the two cards in February 2014. The charges indicated that Cann’s first use of one of the cards was at a jewelry store where he obtained good worth over $5,000.

From there, Cann went on to hit a multitude of other shops and service providers which included a pharmacy, shoe store, grocery store, multiple restaurants, a liquor store, gas station, music store, and many more.

Cann was finally caught by Police after one of the credit cards was declined on 18th February when Cann was attempting the purchase of a $5,000 watch. Cann’s behaviour for that transaction triggered action that resulted in Police reviewing a series of CCTV tapes of which Cann was identified by Police.

Senior Magistrate Warner noted that Cann had previously been jailed for committing other offences of a similar nature.

he doesn’t even resemble a Jardine…wtf is wrong with these cashiers….If they were guest workers then they get a pass, if not then they should be fired….heck I wonder if they wudda swiped the card if it was stolen from a Trimingham, lol

      • Redo says:

Ummm geeee, do u think maybe he shopped at stores where he knew the cashiers and they were in on it too??? Duh, am I the only person that thinks this? I mean, c’mon, no jewelry store clerk would sell a 5k watch to someone without checking an ID. Me thinks the cashiers should be interviewred….just a thought here folks.

        • JUST A SUGGESTION says:

That is so not true, very rarely is ID requested when making purchase with a Credit/Debit Card.

  3. Kangoocar says:

I would like to know how on earth he can make that many transactions and nobody checked his ID???? We really have become a dumbed down bunch of people!!

  4. bozey says:

  5. Lizzie says:

Aren’t the cashiers checking ID with debit and credit card sales?????????

  6. Impressive says:

Worlds dumbest criminals,, Point to Note,, Credit Cards have statements that are sent to the card holders in the mail or online, not to mention these holders are going to be asked to pay these amounts and do you not think they will not notice the charges??

  7. Concerned says:

Store Clerks should have asked for his i.d., they ask for mine – wth

  8. MyDear says:

just goes to show you that merchants and their employees don’t ask for identification because if they did he wouldn’t have been able to use it as many times as he did. Do your job better you darn sales people!!! Check signatures on back of the card!!! Ask for id!!!!! That’s part of your Job Description!!!!

    • interesting says:

Signatures dont mean anything seeing as a good bit of people dont like to sign their cards. So someone could steal it and put their own signature on it!
But checking ID definitely would have stopped this.

  9. Serious Though says:

    even KFC ask for ID

  10. whatanidiot says:

    • inna says:

  11. C'mon says:

  12. interesting says:

Hmmm isn’t this the same dude that was supposedly seen as somewhat of a hero on a flight last year or year before for helping flight staff take control or an unruly passenger. Some hero huh?

    • Ms. Scott says:
