Opposition Leader Seeks Censure Of 2 MPs

May 31, 2014

Yesterday [May 30] in the House of Assembly, Opposition Leader Marc Bean gave notice that he intended to move a motion next week asking for Tourism Minister Shawn Crockwell and former Attorney-General Mark Pettingill to be censured for their role in the “JetGate” affair.

Mr. Bean said they “failed to respect the Ministerial Code of Conduct and failed to apprehend or acknowledge the seriousness and or gravity of their acts and omissions for breaching the Ministerial Code of Conduct.”

Audio excerpt of Mr Bean from the House

The full statement from Mr. Bean

I give notice that at the next day of Meeting, I will Move the following Motion:-

That this Honourable House censures the Member for Southampton West Central, the Hon. Shawn Crockwell, JP, MP and the Member for Warwick North East, the Hon. Mark J. Pettingill, JP, MP.

(a)
Having had responsibility as Ministers, as Attorney General in the case of the Member from Warwick North East, and as the Minister of Tourism and Transport in the case of the Member for Southampton West Central, failed to respect the Ministerial Code of Conduct and failed to apprehend or acknowledge the seriousness and or gravity of their acts and omissions for breaching the Ministerial Code of Conduct, in two material particulars, namely; Code V by failing to give accurate and truthful information to Parliament in connection with a private flight to Washington D.C. on March 20th. 2013 the purpose of which said flight was to provide air transport to Washington DC in order to meet with a potential hotel and casino developer, and Code XVII, accepting the following favours, namely free air transportation and hotel accommodation from an individual(s) who are in negotiations with or seeking to enter into contractual or proprietary or pecuniary relations with the Government of Bermuda.

(b)
Failed, as elected Members of the Legislature, to inform this Honourable House of the full nature and extent of their involvement in connection with the above trip at the earliest opportunity, in particular, failed to inform this Honourable House fully as to the involvement of a private citizen on both the flight on March 20th 2013 and the subsequent meeting in Washington D.C. on March 21st.2013 and, in so doing, contributed to the Honourable House being misled on the details of the said flight and said meeting on March 21st 2013 in Washington D.C.

(c)
Failing to appreciate, apprehend or grasp the level of public disquiet that has arisen as a result of their failures in (b) above.

(d)
Following the resignation of the Member for Devonshire South Central as Premier, further failing to apprehend public disquiet over the said events and their involvement, and in the case of the Member from Southampton West Central, failing to tender his resignation as Minister as a result of the above.

(e)
In the case of the Member for Warwick North East, for the role he played in advising the former Premier that the said flight and meeting in Washington would not constitute a breach of the Ministerial Code cited in (a) above, and for continuing to so assert publicly, following the resignation of the Member of Devonshire South Central as Premier.

  1. nuffin but the truth says:

MB should censure his mouth and learn how to talk and behave before he starts complaining about other people!

    • Ian says:

Perhaps you would be more “comfortable” if he talked and “acted” like that ‘good boy’ Crockwell.

      • Tossed Salad says:

No we would be more “comfortable” if he was consistent in his actions.

He has spent one year arguing over something that has not cost the people of Bermuda $1. However, he does not seem to have an issue with any of the past 14 years and millions wasted and $800 million “unaccounted” for.

Fortunately, the people of Bermuda are smarter and know that these a re tactics of a man who is trying to cause diversion and divisiveness in order to distract the OBA from being able to uncover that wrong doing of the last 14 years.

        • Ian says:

Uncover the wrong doings?? Whats taking so long? And by the way, do you have any issues with the OBA of what you’ve seen over the year or does it all smell perfectly rosy to you?

          • Tested Waters says:

Ian – seriously. There are $800 million that are unaccounted for. That is not a rumour – that is a fact that was disclosed DURING the PLPs time in government.

If $800 million is “unaccounted for” how would you explain it. The way most people see it is:

            a) stolen or “gifted” to friends and family.
            b) total incompetence by the PLP government if they don’t know where it went?

I will let you pick or come up with your answer. Somehow, I doubt you will.

          • Purple Koolaid says:

            Ian,

I will let you explain the difference between the two parties thusfar.

Lets see the first thing the PLP did when they came into power was have a National Holiday. Cost to the people of Bermuda was estimated at over $4 million dollars in civil servant wages and more. OBA went straight to work.

$0 missing from public purse under OBA so far.
$800 Million unaccounted for under PLP rule or approximately $4.6 million per month over a 14 year period.

            Lets see, $4 + ($4.75 million x 18)$85.5 million = $89.5 million saved already.

            • Ian says:

Okay Koolaid… Thanks for that mmd blowing assessment…

            • Nas says:

So why hasn’t the OBA investigated this 800 million dollars that is “missing”? Your party is failing you if they are not trying to find it.

        • Steve Biko says:

Ya, Ya, Ya, now dealing with the matter at hand, We know it’s embarrassing and pathetic what de O.B.A./ubp are experiencing but to bring up past issues that Scotland Yard, C.I.A and de F.B.I looked into and found no wrong doings is DIVERSION and DIVISIVNESS at its best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
          LMFAO
Keep it up Bean that’s what um paying you for.

          • nuffin but the truth says:

you aint paying him NUFFIN bye!

          • swing voter says:

u insult the memory of a great man by misusing that pen name

            • Steve Biko says:

What’s insulting is he lost his life to a System that was ingrained in our History, and that System still exist !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • ole Onion says:

O my gosh !! Let he who is without sin cast a stone !!! UBP were there first . Then PLP . Now OBA . All have one thing in common!!! Theft of the peoples moneys & trust !!!

      • Tossed Salad says:

It was easier for me to copy and paste from an Earlier Bernews story, Ian can you answer any of the following for me? The reasons below are the reason why we have no respect for Marc Bean and his misdirected vision. He is so focused on his personal mission that he has lost direction and adds nothing to the opposition. If only he had as much anger about any ONE of the following…and there are more.

To copy a post from another Bernews Poster and then add to it, I ask you or your followers:
Who resigned over the millions lost at Grand Atlantic?
Who resigned over the $800 million is unaccounted for dollars?
Who resigned over the Bermuda Cement Co deal?
Who resigned over the millions in screw ups at Berkeley?
Who resigned over the TCD deal not going out to tender?
Who resigned over the Bda Emissions deal?
Who resigned over Tuckers Point SDO?
Who resigned over Faith Based Tourism?
        Who resigned over Beyoncé Concert?
Who resigned when the AG found person expenses paid for with the peoples money?
        Who resigned over Cedar Beams?
Who resigned over Dame Lois Building?
Who resigned over Coco Reef gift?
Who resigned over SDO at Vesey Street
Who resigned after the PLP minister forgot to sign the Cruise Ship contract?
Who resigned over the cruise ship pier deal, overspending, gift contract and poor workmanship ?
Who resigned over GPS self serving deal?
Who resigned over Club Med blow down the hotel and then nothing?
Who resigned over closing down of St. Georges Golf Course?
T-Street – Bda Housing Corporation Scandal – ZERO resignations.
Dame Lois Bldg – zero resignations
Lottery – nope nobody resigned there
Online Swizzle Sales without license – nada – nyet , nope
What about the LED light mess up in Govt offices ?
        Who resigned over Quigars deal?
Who resigned over “We had to deceive you”
Who resigned over Fast Ferry Deal?
Who resigned over Global Hue Deal?

        • I want to thank you “Tossed Salad” for reminding them that seemed to have forgotten so much so damn quickly :-( It would be wonderful if we saw / to see “certain individuals”,(even one)step down for all the wrongs done when the Progressive Labour Party were responsible for the “public’s purse strings”…(But, don’t hold your breath u’lot)

        • Dr. Eddie says:

@ Tossed Salad – I liked your comments — but I don’t know if Premier Dunkley or another OBA MP will
ever outline all the scandalous events that occured while the PLP was in power.
Many would like to see it done’ — because it would slowdown much of the retoric nonsance of the opposition leader.
Then we as a whole can concentrate on bringing Bermuda back to it’s former economic quality of living.

        • Ian says:

Who resigned over the millions lost at Grand Atlantic? – Why would someone have resigned when there were no corrupt dealings; no need to btw they lost the election.

Who resigned over the $800 million is unaccounted for dollars? – Please advise who should have resigned when, unlike Jetgate, no one has been able to prove nor tie these claims to particular individuals.

Who resigned over the Bermuda Cement Co deal? – Who should have resigned. Perhaps someone should resign for “HarborGate”. That revelation will be nothing short of ‘entertaining’

Who resigned over the millions in screw ups at Berkeley? – Again, please advise who should have.

Who resigned over the TCD deal not going out to tender? – If it were that big a problem, why did your government renew the emissions contract. BDA has a long history of stuff not going out to tender, especially under the UBP.

Who resigned over the Bda Emissions deal? – Again, why did OBA renew the emissions control with the same “corrupt” beneficiaries.

Who resigned over Tuckers Point SDO? – Why should someone have resigned over Tuckers point.

Who resigned over Faith Based Tourism? – I don’t know…

Who resigned over Beyoncé Concert? – You mean the same one tons of expats and Bermudians went to and had a great time. Why don’t you ask what the OBA is spending our that CEO, including bonus?

Who resigned when the AG found person expenses paid for with the peoples money? – I sincerely ask, who should have. Quite frankly though, it irritates me more that over $26m of our money is being used by Crockwell’s secret society, the BTA.

Who resigned over Cedar Beams? – Really.. Cedar Beams.. Yet you couldn’t put a single breath toward speak to the fact ALL OF TUCKERS TOWN [and its cedar TREES] was ‘STOLEN’ from a certain group of Bermudians… Good luck proving and getting sympathy over cedar beams.

Who resigned over Dame Lois Building? – Who should have?

Who resigned over Coco Reef gift? – Speak up agains the Jetgate 3 and I’ll back you on this one.

Who resigned over SDO at Vesey Street? – Who should have?

Who resigned after the PLP minister forgot to sign the Cruise Ship contract? – Elaborate..

Who resigned over the cruise ship pier deal, overspending, gift contract and poor workmanship ? –

Who resigned over GPS self serving deal? Sound like your opinion.

Who resigned over Club Med blow down the hotel and then nothing? – Perhaps you should save that one until after they break ground next year per Crockwell’s claims.

Who resigned over closing down of St. Georges Golf Course? – Someone should have resigned?

T-Street – Bda Housing Corporation Scandal – ZERO resignations? – The house was taken from the guy if you don’t recall. Think he did some time too..

Lottery – nope nobody resigned there – What???

Online Swizzle Sales without license – Now you’re just running out of things to rant about

What about the LED light mess up in Govt offices ? yawn…

Who resigned over Quigars deal? – Why should there have been resignation?

Who resigned over “We had to deceive you” – Funny how even to this day a certain group of people hold on that to dear life as if they have no idea what context those words were used in…

Who resigned over Fast Ferry Deal? Like the Rhode Island vessel that hasn’t amounted to any sense?

Who resigned over Global Hue Deal? Who should have?

And a question for you. What exactly does this have to do with the here and now?

          • LOL (Original TM*) says:

This is a straight refussal to answer any question at all. If bringin these things up has nothing to do with the here and now why do you constantly bring up things from the UBP days? Surly you can point to people stepping down in the UBP or charges that come up durring the 40 years of the UBP wait no you can’t guess they must have been squeeky clean! Just like the PLP in thier 14 years righ?..

LOL your a joke and do more harm to your “cause” (just have not decieded if its equality or just to get your party back in) the more you talk it does not seem to be equality or justice. Steven Biko you are definatly not.

            • Jo Blo says:

The questions are answered. How satisfactorily is for you to express with responses to his/her responses.

        • Oh please says:

          EXACTLY

        • el says:

allegations r no reason to resign, misleading the house is another term for ‘ lying’ so what about all those queries that you seem to have did not impact enough to get a conviction….hmmmm

      • 32n64w says:

Ian, perhaps Mr. Bean must have been living under a rock when Dr. Brown tried to ram legislation down the throats of voters by hood winking his fellow MPs. Do you recall this scenario from 2010:

“Premier Ewart Brown suffered a crushing blow yesterday as his cruise ship gaming bill failed with seven Progressive Labour Party MPs voting against it.

Dr. Brown shocked the House of Assembly by attempting to push the legislation through without rebel or Opposition MPs knowing — despite pledging the day before to put it on the back burner until November at the earliest.”

Aren’t hypocrisy and fake indignation sufficient reasons for Mr. Bean to resign his position or at least self censure?

But I guess it’s ok when “they do it” right? Just another example of the PLP running from their littered record of incompetence, duplicity, self dealing and putting the party’s core supporters ahead of the voters.

PLP – betraying Bermudians since 1998; one unemployed, undereducated and debt ridden voter at a time.

        • Ian says:

          32/64

I’m not sure your reference is an apples to apples comparison with the events of recent past on the OBA’s part. It doesn’t help when you take absolutely no issue whatsoever with said recent scandal. It also doesn’t help your position when the best you can do in acknowledging your parties behavior is making reference to your account of past PLP actions… Is there an established time after which that carries no weight our are you guys going to do that going into the next 5, 15, 5o years?! As for the little mantra you’ve ended on, how many OBA/UBP supporters put themselves in a ton of debt thinking the good times would never end b4 2oo8 – while the PLP was in power? What exactly did the UBP do to improve education on the island for the folks you profile as undereducated PLP supporters? Recall it was the UBP that shut down the very successful Tech Institute and built that monstrosity Cedar Bridge. And as Ive asked you before the last time you dropped that line, what exactly are your credentials my educated, employed, debt free, OBA supporting brethren?

          • LOL (Original TM*) says:

what excatly was the scandal about

was it they took a ride on a plane – did not Furbert admit to do that.

was it the money – show me the advantage the contractor got.

was it the fourth guy on the plain?

was it the money it cost the tax payer? 0 wasn’t it

Personally after the Dr I would not have resigned at all

if it was solely about misinforming the house (you can call it lieing) then where were you durring the PLP reign jumping up and down on the PLP for misleading the house….right wearing green with a cup of watered down gravy in your hand thinking you were the stuff init.

            LOL

            • Ian says:

Between the poor grammar and excessive mispelling, you do not express yourself very clearly. For the record I am not a “PLP supporter” as I do not place any faith in our local political system. So no green in the closet… And whats the watered down gravy reference? Sounds like one of those things you would only say behind the guise of a name like ‘LOL’. Very cowardly indeed.

      • Build a Better Bermuda says:

I’d be more comfortable if he didn’t think we should breath in everything he say a being an aromatic truth that he and his party embody and live by, when he is talking out his backside. Bermuda deserve more from an opposition leader/party, other than one that is only out to win the next election through a 5 year smear campaign. Every time he puts this load of BS forward in the house, it is taking away from the time that the government as a whole body could be working to fix this country. There are really very few reasons that keep me from supporting the PLP, but the biggest has to do with the fact that they inflict the mentality of party before country, mostly because they see themselves as being the country as opposed to being a part of it. You do not have to be PLP to be black or Bermudian, you just have to care more about what a person does than by what he says, and after 14 years, what Mr. Bean says does not match with what they’ve done, or what I would trust them to do. Mr. Bean has yet to show anything otherwise and that is why he is failing, the PLP and the country as a whole.

    • LMAO East West says:

and this is who the bank will have legally advising them, hmmmmmm

  2. somuchless says:

And I will censure the PLP too. Damn bean head give it a break.

  3. John Thorne says:

The PLP should be censured for bankrupting the country which is far worse than anything the OBA has done so far.

    • We the People (1st!!) says:

I have to ask, what in the world does that have to do with this jetgate debacle?

Whatever the PLP did is the reason why they are no longer government. Also, whatever the PLP did cannot be used as an excuse to accept, allow, or defend the wrongdoing from this government or any government minister.

The question is – did they break any part of the Ministerial Code of Conduct?

      (v) It is of paramount importance that Ministers give accurate and truthful information to Parliament, correcting any inadvertent errors at the earliest opportunity. Ministers who knowingly mislead Parliament will be expected to offer their resignations to the Premier.

Take time to go back and read over the Jetgate events , bernews has a great timeline which you can easily follow, and ask yourself did those involved ” knowingly mislead Parliament.”

(ix) Ministers should not accept any gifts or offers of hospitality which might, or might reasonably appear to, compromise their judgment or place them under an improper obligation.

Did those involved accept gifts or offers of hospitality? Luxury plane ride and paid for overnight stay can be considered to be a gift or offer of hospitality.

(xvii) Ministers should not seek or accept any kind of favour from individuals who are in negotiation with, or seeking to enter into contractual or proprietary or pecuniary relations with the Government.

Was Mr. Landow seeking to enter into contractual or proprietary or pecuniary relations with the Government via his interest in the Club Med site?

Answer this question please, some OBA member who accepts this behaviour.

Why did the former Premier have to resign, even facing pressure from his own party to resign, and not the others involved when they did the exact same thing?

      • street wise says:

He didn’t “have to resign”… he chose to resign. Anyway, I prefer Mr Dunkley.

        • We the People (1st!!) says:

I said “have to resign” because he was pressured to resign from his own party. To avoid the public embarrassment of his own party voting to remove him during their emergency meetings, he “had to resign”. If he was pressured from his own party to resign, then why were the others involved not pressured to resign also?

        • Nas says:

You prefer Dunkley? Proof that the OBA eat their young..

      • Hmmmm says:

You know, Ubp supporters like to claim that PLP voters just vote on emotion and are irrational sheep. But, if you read the ministerial code of conduct, it is blatantly obvious for anyone who has the most basic of comprehension skills, that Mark & Shawn were IN BREACH OF THE CODE!!! I don’t care if they’re black, white, PLP, Ubp, OBA, or Bda! They BROKE THE CODE and should resign!!! Stop pointing fingers at the previous administration in an attempt to justify their actions! That is ignorance and only further erodes the standards & legitimacy of our present government!!! Children do this nonsense when they get caught doing wrong! And then we expect or children to be able to discern right and wrong when we as adults act as if we don’t know the difference ourselves when it suits us! Bunch of donkeys, stubborn, set in our political ways and braying ignorantly over an issue that is basic common sense!

    • 32n64w says:

Shhh John. It’s ok when “they do it”. The PLP are incapable of taking responsibility for anything they’ve done wrong. They honestly think the electorate are mindless sheep that will simply forget the $2,500,000,000 in debt they accumulated while in office.

      • nuffin but the truth says:

$2,500,000,000…no my friend..much more than that, but yes,I agree with your comment on the whole

    • Ian says:

Same ole MINDLESS matras from OBA supporters that offer them the ‘luxury’ of not having to take a look at their own partys blatant shortcomings… You guys really don’t spend much time formulating real positions of substance do you. Do you really believe your “Look at what the PLP did..” nonsense really has the effect of making people question the PLPs past? All it does is draw increased attention to the fact you and your party don’t seem capable of answering the simplest questions on the most obvious acts of corruption.

      • LOL (Original TM*) says:

You mus be the other side of the coin then right down to the Tea party tactics. lol

LOL politicis in Bermuda is so predictable.

        • Ian says:

So funny when OBA/UBP’ers refer to PLP as Tea-Party-like when its YOUR party that represents the white, business-interest-controlled, big-government-hating segment of the island. The irony is hilarious.

    • el says:

and thorns should be illegal coz they prick.

  4. Onion says:

Not sure how c) is at all relevant.

Guess the PLP missed the opportunity to censure their own members when they became unpopular.

  5. Onion says:

    b) is a joke too.

Does Bean expect Parliament to be told everything that a Minister does or else face censure.

    He’s setting a hell of a precedent.

    • Concerned says:

that is what Ewart Brown would do/would have done…

  6. Terry says:

Now this is the height of lunacy.

    Uighurs come to mind.

    Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Ian says:

No surprise responses here from the OBA camp…

      • Hmmm says:

How about people of Bermuda camp. You staunch PLP henchmen are tunnel visioned.

        • Ian says:

Please explain the tunnel vision bit as I keep forgetting how daft alleged PLP supporters are on matters of socioeconomic significance… You think this is the first time a group of people have taken the position another group is below them simply due to the fact they don’t share their views/principles? Have a look a history and notice how frequently history has [and continues to] depicted the former group as arrogant, loud, long and wrong.

          • Hmmm says:

Noone is above or below. You are making that up to suit your own purpose.

Bean is delaying getting things done. All this arguing is holding Bermuda back and wasting precious time in the house.

            • el says:

you obviously don’t understand politics, what power does Mr. Bean have to delay the actions of the Government elect?.. Or maybe you show your lack of faith in the OBA government that you elected and you just keep wanting those PLP back so you can legitimize your complaint, but it ain’t happening If Mr. Bean has as much power as you are suggesting than pay attention, like he said there’s more to come.

              • Hmmm says:

I understand what needs to be done, neither you nor Bean can grasp what damage you are doing ti the future of Bermudians, by causing constant disruptions in the available time rather than just debating the progress and legislation put orward by the OBA.

Do the PLP want Bermuda working, or do they want us to fail?

                • Ian says:

Why would they want Bermuda to fail as a grass-roots Bermudian party??

      • 32n64w says:

Ian, perhaps Mr. Bean must have been living under a rock when Dr. Brown tried to ram legislation down the throats of voters by hood winking his fellow MPs. Do you recall this scenario from 2010:

        • The P.L.P. Leader, Marc Bean (amongst others) seem to have only “selective memories” Sad yes…but true :-(

      • Anon says:

Ian. In case you haven’t noticed, people “in the OBA camp” are just really anti PLP. These taxpaying citizens, myself included are hardworking, Bermuda loving, people and yes, we’re pissed off. That’s right, we’re all incredibly pissed off. We had to watch while the PLP ruined the country’s finances, possibly forever, while the PLP split the psyche of this country into black and white, possiibly forever, bloated th civil service and created a sense of entitlement that will be all but impossible to fix. So if you thnk we’re just going to sit back and watch the PLP continue to ruin this place, your wrong, very wrong. Sadly, for you, demographically, we non-PLP (notice we’re not necessarily OBA , we’re not black or white because we’re a mix of both, but we’re unitied) we have the capital available to leave if we want and with us we will take our companies, the Bermudians jobs they provide, the value of our properties, and our professional skill sets and education. You might think all this Jetgate stuff is amusing and unities you in your cause, but to us , the anti-PLP , it just means this country isn’t focusing on what needs to be fixed. So enough….time to move on or face the continue wrath of new “anti-PLP”

Mark take a chill pill …or what ever else helps you to relax.

  8. Serious Though says:

Mr. Bean, if you live in a glass house, (PLP) don’t throw any stones…there is some in your party we would like to censure to answer question on:
    1. National debt
    2. Uighurs..
    3. Violence
    4. Education reforms
    5. Pension
    6. Heath care

    • We the People (1st!!) says:

Truth speaking, something that is foreign to OBA posters on here.

Marc Bean has previously accepted and acknowledged the wrongdoings, failings, and faults of his party when they were government. From your list, which one is Mr. Bean responsible for?

Also from your list, which one is in breach of the Ministerial Code of Conduct?

MINISTERIAL CODE OF CONDUCT is the focus of this motion of censure.

What is your honest view of these allegations and not using the the irrelevancy of what the PLP did when they were government?

      • 32n64w says:

“Marc Bean has previously accepted and acknowledged the wrongdoings, failings, and faults of his party when they were government.”

Really? When and where? What are they going to to about paying it back? Take a collection from their highly paid members and current/former MPs who are now living high on the voters’ backs?

Maybe the BIU will relinquish the +95% of members’ fees that subsidize the air time and salaries their officers are paid to erroneously convince voters of their worth leaving virtually nothing for the members themselves?

How much has the BIU actually spent on their own over the last ten years? What training and job development programs have they financially endorsed, created, developed or promoted?

        None.

PLP – betraying Bermudians since 1998, one unemployed, undereducated and debt ridden voter at a time.

        • We the People (1st!!) says:

This is the only time I will ever respond to you because you like to have a biased argument filled with nothing but lies which NEVER adds to the conversation. I didn’t want to offend you or anyone, that is never my intention, but you think and argue like a child.

Marc bean did acknowledge the failings of his party when they were government, on radio and on Let’s Talk shortly after he became the opposition leader.

MINISTERIAL CODE OF CONDUCT is the focus of this motion of censure.

Answer the question – What is your honest view of these allegations and not using the the irrelevancy of what the PLP did when they were government?

          • Hmmm says:

            Spring Benny, Spice and gamblegate.

            • We the People (1st!!) says:

Please elaborate and provide evidence of wrong doing and also please explain how this relates to any part of the Ministerial Code of conduct.

          • Comebye Ahh says:

All he said what that there were some mistakes and wrong doings? He made a very generic statement. He never specified what he thought his party did wrong and who was responsible. Very different.

  9. Johnboy says:

Surely MP Bean can find find more “dirt” than this. Getting stale now……

  10. Navin Johnson says:

Don’t tell Bean but he is losing credibility now every time he opens his mouth…with the wiffs and dems and dee’s and doe’s while bleating on about a dead issue he shows that he has no interest in moving Bermuda forward…perhaps he thinks that the more he drones on about this issue it will some how deter the investigation into the previous Government wrongdoings…..another big mistake ..he is totally out of his element what ever his element is….guess that his party views him as the best of a bad lot…..no wonder they were a miserable failure and put us in the position we are in

  11. Gotham says:

What a nasty little opportunist… Getting ready to come back in and tax the bejesus out of all hardworking Bermudians so he and his cronies can carry on with their vulgar, flash lives. In the meantime, I wonder how many PLP MPs are not tax compliant in their affairs? It would be helpful for Mr. Bean to clarify this.

  12. Ringmaster says:

With this as a precedent, the PLP will be praying they never get elected as Government again.

  13. abd says:

Ok we get it Mr. Bean…You are good and pointing our very little flaw and mistake in others…But can you run a Country?

    • abd says:

      every*

      @ abd,

The simple answer is No… More like Hell No!!! But there’s plenty out there who’d like to give him the opportunity anyway. Sad.

A censure is just a slap on the wrist. So what.

  18. Campervan says:

I’d like to see the leader of the opposition censured for gay bashing.

  19. Marc Bean do your thing, let the truth be known. That’s right we the public deserves to no the truth. Smart move Mark Pettingill. The OBA hasn’t offer Shawn Crockwell a job. That’s right Shawn fight to the end. Then expose the whole situation, if there not with you. You are to smart,to let your own party leave you hanging alone. Shock then and walk across the floor. PLP all the way. Dunkley enjoy the short ride.

Rolf couldn’t get a job selling toilet paper until somebody now who was it can’t remember hmmm oh yeah he working now

  20. Concerned Citizen says:

Haha, OBA members and supporters really do not like Opposition Leader Bean. Why? Would you prefer somebody who turned a blind eye to the OBA, or somebody more passive? I appreciate the man very much, and to be honest, whenever I see the above comments, confirms to me that Marc Bean is an excellent leader!

    • Educate says:

I’m a supporter of no man or party, but I hate a hypocrite!

    • Tricks are for Kids says:

One thing when Marc speaks you’re guaranteed to get a HISTORY lesson/Trip down memory lane from the staunch OBA supporters……never fails……LOL….They’ll be the ones that hit the “dislike” button on this comment….SMH…..

      • Tricks are for Kids says:

        LOL….so predictable. ……

    • Steve Biko says:

I agree as long as a certain group of people are comfortable with an emasculated leader they’re alright but when they gotta deal with someone who has b@lls they have a problem.

      • Comebye Ahh says:

You do realize that two of the last three PLP leaders and therefore also Premiers of Bermuda were women? Steve Biko, c’mon if you are going to try to make someone look bad, at least think about those within your own party that you might be offending.

        • Make a New Plan Stan says:

Alex Scott was in between Jennifer Smith and Ewart Brown.

It went like this…..Jennifer Smith….Alex Scott…..Ewart Brown and Paula Cox.

So you have to say two of the last four.

Having “b@lls” is figurative and is not gender based at all.

I know how picky some people are on here I’m just helping you out for next time.

      • Hmmm says:

He doesn’t have balls (as you put it) he wanted to scrap the referendum , then backed out of that when PLP caucus whooped his sorry behind.

He is a puppet and is going along with the destructive short sighted policies of string pullers. Thery seek to destroy Bermuda, so they can then each TAKE a piece of a pie… Sadly they are truly on a fools errand and will destroy its people and themselves.

      • Unbelievable says:

TCF, why can’t you just blog in your real name?

      • LOL (Original TM*) says:

Really you must not remember him saying he was sorry for something he said that did not follow the line i believe it had something to do with education. That was the last independent thought he had.

LOL you pro-plpers are very funny

    • Hmmm says:

So delaying getting Bermuda back on its feet is good leadership for Bermuda. Marc Bean is anti Bermuda.

    • whatever says:

No it’s not that (and I am not partisan by any stretch). It’s just that he’s focusing on things that are not that important to Bda to draw your attention away from things that are. He knows that he can’t win any arguments about jobs, the economy, etc.

Was “jetgate” a stupid move on the part of those that were involved? Undoubtedly. Was it fraud? No. Bribery? No – however, if this had resulted in a big $$ contract to Mr Landow, perhaps. But that is not what happened. Corruption? No. Misappropriation of public funds? No. Should the OBA had been more forthcoming with info about this? Yes.

Mr Bean has succeeded in getting the resignations of the Cannon (who I personally think was a bit weak as a leader, but a good person overall. I’d trust him over Beanbag any day of the week) and Pettingill (who I think is a ##$#). Is that not enough? Crockwell is a minor player. i don’t even think OBA supporters care one way or the other about him. What is the point of censure anyway? It’s not like anything meaningful will come out of it.

The important things are getting Bermudians back to work and getting the economy back on track. Smoke and mirrors are fun to play with but they sure ain’t going to help us at the end of the day… PLEASE can we deal with important issues now.

    • coolieh says:

He adds NO value to Bermuda or our lives!

  26. Coffee says:

As Mr.Ukulele X would say truth , honesty , integrity … Three attributes clearly lacking amongst Mr.Pettingill and Mr.Crockwell . Those two rascals will never admit to their lying and deceptive behaviors .

The right thinking people of this country give you Mr Marc Bean the authority to let loose and put it to record forever that these men were together in a conspiracy to mislead the Bermudian population over a very important issue .

Now where is Craig ?, he needs to get some of this too . I’ll take an educated guess that he’s in Singapore finding out for himself how to gamble responsibly , after all he lose his shirt in the last deal , had shoestrings holding up his pants leaving government house . LOL

    • nuffin but the truth says:

    • whatever says:

      THERE WAS NO CONSPIRACY.

      • Coffee says:

          • Coffee says:

            $800,000,000 that money … Well !
That …. That money was spent .. Gone between your imagination and that GRAND SALLY BASSETT STATUE THAT GRACES THE GOUNDS OF CABINET HOUSE !

            • LOL (Original TM*) says:

might believe that PLP paying 300% or 400% more than its worth, sounds right. Only problem are the blind trusts everywhere….

LOL did you say transecrecy or transparency not sure with PR people never really say anything do they

    • Anon Ymous says:

“these men were together in a conspiracy to mislead the Bermudian population over a very important issue”

      “We had to deceive you!”

Where was the PLP outrage then? If misleading the population is the crime here then there are some real short memories.

  27. Very interesting... says:

This entire situation is very interesting to say the least. It was the opposition leader’s constant badgering that actually resulted in the resignation of both the former Premier and the Attorney General; If not ‘resulted in’, at a minimum ‘contributed to’. Neither looks good for the country as a whole, but it wasn’t Mark Bean who did the dumb deeds, it was the former Premier and former Attorney General! That said, what appears to be a small victory to the Opposition has actually resulted in the former ‘establishment’ ie. Michael Dunkley and Trevor Moniz, ex UBP MP’s both being placed in the highest and most powerful roles in government! I don’t know if that’s what the Opposyion leader anticipated… But.. All so very interesting indeed. The complete story remains yet to be told! Stay tuned.

    • js says:

whether or not the opposition anticipated the appointments of Dunkley or Moniz it is still a major victory for them

logic may dictate that having the unelectable former ‘establishment’ in prominent roles may now make the OBA unelectable moving forward

my only advise to Bean would be after the jetgate affair has run its course start the process of transiting from an opposition leader to a potential government leader

Bean’s political future is in his own hands and the OBA’s is now out of theirs

    • street wise says:

While you’re at it, you might as well change the party name back to the UBP……

  28. @lucky7 & educate!!! I don’t care what you think or say about my grammar. You understood what I wrote. Marc Bean you are a smart black man. Call them all out. 2 down and all to go. PLP all the way.

    • coolieh says:

All the way to where? Ruin? Ok, please go by yourself. Don’t drag the rest of us with you!

  29. MP.Bean. WHEN WILL YOU ADDRESS THE AFOREMENTIONED DIGRESSIONS OF YOUR PARTY. UNTILL YOU DO AND FULLY NOT WITH A BLANKET SIMPLISTIC COVER as quoted from above source “Marc Bean has previously accepted and acknowledged the wrongdoings, failings, and faults of his party when they were government.” So it is ok to say sorry but not to do as the OBA was said to have done which didn’t cost a damn penny. GET REAL BEAN answer and act on your parties faults and call for an INVESTIGATION on that and not your perceived personnel vendetta against a few individuals. What happened you couldn’t get a piece of the action?????GO AWAY

  30. Since when did you Mr Bean become so perfect. Please take the S off your shirt. You are NOT Superman nor are you Perfect

  31. Drewson says:

All of you supporting MB right now are a part of that COG in the wheel that has now prevented Bermuda to go forward. Nobody from the opposition should complain one smidgen of an ounce. All were sitting still in their HIGH CHAIRS being fed their baby koolaid juice while their previous government led us on the fast track to economic HELL. Never really thinking of Bermuda best, but just thinking of lining their pockets with Bermuda’s $’s in not illegal ways but unethical ways.
Not one ounce of Bermuda taxpayers dollars was spent on that trip. I believe it was a mistake to take such a trip knowing that the awaiting PLP VULTURES are watching their every move and are ready to pick apart everything they do and put forward. OBA should have known that and should have been prepared.
So MB and all the PLP supporters should be biting their lips and tongues in silence for now. It seems to me that the OBA have one shot at cleaning up the stench and mess that the PLP left behind. All PLP members should know of how this country was left in economic ruins when they left power, and still had not even a shred of a clue on how to get Bermuda out of their black hole they created. If the PLP supporters do not see that, and the OBA fail ( due to the PLP tactics ) then we will never progress.
Time for them to SHUT THEIR FRONT DOORS, and use some real knowledge on uniting Bermuda to be that shining gem in the ATLANTIC once again. But then again they can not forget the past to move forward! Bermuda I love you, but I believe we are politically doomed with pompous fools that say they care, but halt our wheel of progression.

  32. Hmm says:

Mark Bean has succeeded at making sure I never vote for PLP while he has anything to do with it. The entire time as opposition leader has been spent on personal attacks against members of the sitting government. Can someone tell the opposition leader and his radio station jockey on 102.7FM that they have only succeeded in dividing this country further! What has been done to actually forward the country since they got booted out of power? Nothing!!! Someone call Disney and let Snow White and the seven dwarves know Bermuda has jobs for them. I’d vote them into government before I see PLP back in to continue their ruin of this fragile nation! Not to mention Magic 102.7, show us some real magic and make that oppressive annoying gibberish of a radio program disappear! Sounds like auditory cancer!

    • Impressive says:

i dont like majority of the shows on television, do you know what I do?? I don’t watch them,, simple.

And oppressive?????? Do you know what that word means??

  33. Ya got me Rollin says:

I seen these blogs for som time now. Same OBA/Ubite people spewing the same trash. This New/old UBP scam using the surrogates is just about up. These OBA/Ubite bloggers should have been on Front Street the hear the reception their precious new leader received when his name was announced on Bermuda Day. CRICKETS!!!!! (Amongst the thousands seated around)

OOhhh . They wouldn’t know this now would they. They don’t support anything Bermudian.

  36. swing voter says:

OBA need to ignore the madman and keep moving forward. let the court jester(s) continue entertaining the populace with absurd motions and speeches that defy reason.

  37. street wise says:

IMHO Mark Bean is nothing more than a sock puppet for DREB. Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock.

  38. SeeBee says:

Marc Bean should be removed. Didn’t he just admit to distributing marijuana to a minor? I’m not an attorney but I’m pretty sure that’s still a crime here in Bermuda.

  39. Gotham says:

The real problem is that the PLP are doing everything in their power to make the country ungovernable. The irony is that it will be if they win an election or find themselves in power because a few spineless wets cross the floor – mass exodus of capital both of the brain and financial, complete lack of new legitimate (as opposed to Gangsta cash) investment to secure our futures, blatant sectarianism resulting in the withdrawal from public affairs of precisely those persons most qualified to create a fair, vibrant, intelligent society, need I go on?

  40. Navin Johnson says:

Cindy Swan has a call into Bean to thank him…she is not looking that stupid in comparison

  41. J Herald says:

Is this the same guy who gave his 3 years old Weed? And he’s the head of the PLP? We truly live in La La Land.

  42. Looking in says:

Beanie gave Ganga to his 3 yr old daughter.

  43. Fur Real says:

My 2 year old had a cough the other day so I made him some Ganja tea! Can you just imagine if someone in the OBA pronounced that they were a a “herbalist” and did something like that! We would have WEED GATE for a fricking year and a day….but no, the PLP Parliamentary Group are all good with their Leaders conduct even if grossly irresponsible…”herbalist”…obviously Bean is drinking the special “Green Tea” and serving it to his shadow Cabinet…Censure that!
