Digicel Restored, Offers Free International Calls
Digicel announced their network is fully restored following Hurricane Gonzalo, and as their ‘thank you’ to customers, the company is offering postpaid customers 30 free minutes of international talk time per day through October 31st 2014.
Alistair Beak, CEO of Digicel Bermuda says; “Bermuda has made an amazing recovery post Tropical Storm Fay and Hurricane Gonzalo and Digicel has put everything into restoring our network thanks to the network upgrades executed by our Bermudian field engineers Steven, Matthew and Blaine [pictured below].
“Our technical team especially has selflessly worked non-stop during the recovery process for which we are truly grateful.
Mr. Beak added, “As a small token of our gratitude for the patience shown by our customers over the last couple of weeks, we decided to offer free international minutes on calls made to common destinations including the U.S.A, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland and Portugal. This offer will allow customers to ring their friends and family abroad at no cost.”
Digicel postpaid customers who choose to avail of the free minutes simply need to text ‘INTL’ to 2122 and instructions will follow. The free international minute offer is open to all Digicel postpaid customers who can expect to receive a free opt in text message with activation instructions as well as a confirmation SMS once the minutes are ready for use.
In another move to thank customers, all Digicel customers, including prepaid, can expect to receive a text message in the coming days offering free coffee from Buzz as another small token from the company.
“Digicel is committed to Bermuda in providing the best network and these two gestures are provided to both thank our customers and celebrate the work of our technical team and overall to simply to say thank you,” ends Mr. Beak.

what about Jamaica and barbados
Funny. I’m reading this article yet have no service, not even one bar… And I’m in direct sight of a digicel tower!
Instead of a “small token” that is absolutely meaningless to me, how about a few dollars off my bill?!
Hi @Um Um Like… Where are you experiencing this area of no service?
I was in Smiths earlier. I’m now in town, and although I’ve got a signal, my data service is almost non-existent.
what about those on prepaid that don’t drink coffee what reward do they get? or is it just because they are prepaid they do not deserve anything for the same inconveniences as postpaid clients? just wondering
This is probably the first time ever that postpaid customers got a benefit ahead of prepaid ones. It’s usually the other way around.
Well done, Digicel. Very nice gesture.
Well done Digicel.. CableVision are you watching??!!
* Make HD channels free like WOW and the rest of the world
* Increase the internet speed before Jesus returns
* Give Daily (every day not every 3-5 days) updates on the restoration progress.
* Take a leaf out of Belco’s book and place breakdowns explaining why we pay what we pay locally… I mean it would make sense to dispel myths.
wouldn’t it?
Giving to charities(just your civic duty) is all well and good, but your first priority are the customers who shell out the cash monthly.
Ditto at “Reality” in reference to Cable Vision! Smh
Thank you Digicel! Your technicians are appreciated and this gesture is awesome!
