New Price Rite Store Opens In Warwick

January 20, 2016

Premier Michael Dunkley congratulated The MarketPlace group today when he attended the opening of their newest Price Rite store in Warwick.

Premier Dunkley joined MarketPlace owner Pamela Ferriera and MarketPlace president Gary Shuman in performing a ribbon cutting at the new establishment, which is located at the site of the former White’s supermarket.

Audio of Premier Dunkley’s comments:

Price Rite is known in the community for providing consumers with a convenient way to shop, offering a variety of items for purchase in bulk. They also offer a range of goods, from electronics to outdoor furniture – providing consumers with a one stop shopping experience.

In his remarks today, the Premier praised The MarketPlace group for “having confidence in Bermuda, for investing in the property and for creating jobs for the community.”

Also on hand at today’s event were school children from Heron Bay Primary, Bermuda Institute and Warwick Academy as well as area MP, Jeff Sousa.

    Say bye bye to HUNTS!

    • Nanny Pat says:

Hunt’s has a discount day so I’ll keep shopping there….unless PriceRite has a discount day.

  2. sage says:

Why would children be taken out of school to celebrate a tycoon opening a wholesale store?

    • George says:

A bit strange indeed! I wouldn’t go as far as calling Pamela Ferriera a Tycoon however. She’s an astute business woman like her husband before her!

      • sage says:

        tycoon |tīˈko͞on| noun
1 a wealthy, powerful person in business or industry.

  3. Coffee says:

Wishing this enterprise well ! But please continue to Support the small man on kyber pass ….

  4. Good Guy says:

    Walmart in Bermuda

    • frank says:

no walmart prices are lower if folks are smart they can fly up to new jersey and shop a load up their own container and ship it to bermuda twice a year

      • Common cent$ says:

2-3 thousand for a container, airfare for 1 round trip- 4-600, getting the goods from walmart to container 3-500, duty on let’s say- 20,000 dollars in good- maybe 1-2000 dollars, paperwork for customs, time spent… List goes on- and what the heck would someone do with a container Of product and where would they put it? Yeah ur right- seems simple lol

        • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL says:

On average to buy products and fill up your container and then ship to the island complete with items to sell here and after all duty and what not has been taken out, under a peddlers license would cost around 20 to 26k. After selling all those items your money would double. Done it before so I know what I’m talking about.

      • Build a Better Bermuda says:

So your response is to send more Bermuda dollars overseas, rather than spend it here where it can support Bermudians… kinda hypocritical after all your Bermuda First rants

    • Onion juice says:

Ya like Gorhams is the Home Depot in Bermuda, and prices 3x more.
      LMFAO

  5. Missy says:

Congrats to the owners of Price Rite but let’s not forget that we should support our own. And remember that Hunts is a family owned store that plays a key role in our community.

    • Wazza says:

But it feels like a supermarket 20 years ago. Only good local should survive, being small and local isn’t reason enough.

    • Common cent$ says:

      Our own??? Bermudian?? Or color

      • What??? says:

Why is color always mentioned. Market place / Price Rite employs BLACK & WHITE staff. WHY IS COLOR AN ISSUE…. plus Hunts prices are so high to due that they had the upper hand being the only wholesale place in the area. FYI Owners of Price Rite / Market Place are BERMUDIAN…..

    • Jolly says:

MarketPlace is also a family owned store.

  6. Widget says:

Let’s hope the price remain RIGHT. They tend to go up after time.

    • Joey-Bag-O'doughnuts says:

Not so. These guys’ prices are good and remain so.

  7. Truth is killin' me... says:

Just because it’s bulk doesn’t always mean you’re getting a bargain. Check your prices people! 2 main things killing people’s paychecks right now electricity and groceries and they’re both practically owned by monopolies. Speaking of which oil is at an all time low. My Belco and gas pump prices should be coming down DRAMATICALLY!!

  8. Widget says:

I don’t know about you but I’m taking my business to Hunts!!!!!!!!!!!

    • inna says:

LOL good on you i guess? If it makes you feel better then sure!

  9. Common cent$ says:

Just a reminder- the owner of The Marketplace is Bermudian, one of the largest employers of bermudians in this country, and one of the best paying employers to bermudians in the retail sector on this island. Not to mention the amount of Bermudian contractors/employees that were employed during the remodel/rebuild of this store. Is the store or company perfect? No. Are the prices and selection perfect? No. But is it the best warehouse store on the Island, with lower prices than most? Yes. Shop around, shop smart, expect great service everywhere, because you are going to shop where you feel important.

    • Widget says:

@common cent$. It appears you may well work for the company. Perhaps????? Good plug just the same.

      • Common cent$ says:

We’ll never know if I do or not- wouldnt matter–the great thing is that the truth was stated and cannot be argued. Think the responses have spoken for themselves in terms of the possible future success of this new store- no plug needed there. I just know I shopped in there today- and people are pretty thrilled with what we saw.

    • sage says:

Oh, they’ve been trained to parrot the “did you find everything you wuz looking for?” too? Makes me feel mucho important.

  10. Bermuda Jake says:

Congrats on bringing the building and business back to life!

  11. Pooty Tang says:

Geez…everything does not come down to race……congratulations on the opening….

  12. Oh,I see now says:

Black, white or purple in these tough money times I will shop where I get more bang for the buck.I have a huge admiration for Mr Hunt and what he has done for his self.I bet he would not mind if I could make a dollar out of fifteen cents at another store to benefit my family. That other store doesn’t necessarily even have to be this one in particular.Black isn’t always exact and white isn’t always right good financial common sense has no colour.

  13. Jolly says:

    Competition is good.

  14. The Truth says:

Photo OP #3,467…I think for Mr. Premier (since 2014, maybe)?

  15. Crab Meat says:

“Lindo’s, why go any place else?”

  16. bermyguy says:

lets not get it twisted… Market Places has been after Hunts for years.. I know for a fact so please don’t argue with me. This Country may be small but it is still big enough for all the businesses, they didn’t have put it in Warwick. Like i said i know what i am saying is a fact, evil does not prosper. God don’t sleep

    • Common cent$ says:

Lol, but it was different when they opened a store at Hayward’s??? How’s that store doing by the way?? They were going after M place huh??

      • Common cent$ says:

After Hunts for years………If hunts was blowing the socks off people sending cart loads of goods out the door– marketplace would’ve thunk twice about probably dumping many zero’s into that dilapidated building giving the community what they’ve been waiting for.

  17. Y-gurl says:

It’s the marketplace.. Let’s see if the price is actually right or another bulk buy rip

  18. Positivity says:

We will shop where the prices are reasonable, there are a variety of products and the service is great. If you can’t offer this then you’re not being competitive.

  19. Karen says:

Congrats. Looking forward to checking this new place out!

  20. Miguelito says:

    Me too.
