Harlequins retained the Atlantic Rugby Cup in a tight match played at the National Sports Centre on Saturday evening.

Having watched the Bermuda National team beat Bahamas earlier in the afternoon, a healthy crowd watched the professional players take to the pitch in a game which saw the lead exchange hands on multiple occasions.

Harlequins eventually overcame the spirited Bermuda Barbarians team, scoring a converted try in the dying seconds of the match to win by one point 39-38.

Mark Lambert, the Harlequins Prop forwards, was presented the Atlantic Rugby Cup trophy, sponsored by Worldwide Currencies, by the visiting Bermuda Barbarians captain, David Seymour – the club captain of Sale Sharks.

After the match, Mr Lambert commented “We are delighted to be back in Bermuda and have once again been made to feel welcome on this fantastic island. We are very pleased to have retained the Atlantic Rugby Cup although the winning margin was a little tighter than we would have liked.

“It was hot and humid out there and the game was played at a frantic pace with the ball hardly leaving the field of play. There are some tired players out there this evening!”
