The 2016 World Rugby Classic continued on Friday [Nov 11] at the National Sports Center with a double header that saw France defeat the United States 28 – 12 in the plate semi-final and then Argentina defeated New Zealand 40 – 14 in the classic semi-final.

Plate Semi-Final: United States 12 France 28

The opening Plate Semi-Final saw the French open up a lead on the Americans and proved to strong as they advanced to Saturday night’s Plate Final winning 28 – 12.

France got tries from Sebastian Allard, Farid Sid, Charly Platek and Yann Fior, while Andre Hough kicked four conversions. USA got a try from Dennis Walker and Peter Dahl while Mathieu Lesgourgues kicked a conversion.

Classic Semi-Final: New Zealand 14 Argentina 40

Argentina scored early and often against New Zealand. Lucas Borges scored in the first minute of the match giving Argentina the lead and when Santiago Van Der Ghotte kicked the conversion it made the score 7 – 0.

Deigo Leberato went over for Argentina with 8 minutes remaining in the half. When Van Der Ghotte kicked the conversion it extended the lead to 14 – 0 to Argentina. One minute later it was 21 – 0 with a Bernardo Stortoni try and Van Der Ghotte conversion.

Just before half time Argentina would strike again taking a 28 – 0 lead to the break with Borges scoring his second try of the game and Van Der Ghotte adding the conversion.

The second half started just like the first with Argentina scoring an early try. Federico Castilla went over for a try, but Van Der Ghotte’s conversion attempt hit the upright leaving the score at 33 – 0.

Deve Heeps would get New Zealand on the board when he went over for a try with the conversion good by Andrew Mehrtons making the score 33 – 7. New Zealand would then add another try with Jackie Tarrant going over. Mehrtons kicked the conversion making it 33 – 14.

Rafael Carballo would add another try for Argentina and Van Der Ghotte added the conversion making the final score 40 – 14.
