Police Confirm: Man Dies After Shooting
[Updating] Police have responded to the Parson’s Road/Deepdale, Pembroke area this evening [Nov 3], with an ambulance seen leaving the area with sirens on just before 10.00pm. Crime scene tape is visible and unofficial reports indicate that there has been a shooting. Details are limited at this time, however we will update as able.
Update 10.16pm: Police confirm there was a shooting, and one person has been injured.
There were a number of people at the scene initially, with multiple residents saying they heard what sounded like gunshots, and people have now left, and the police continue their investigation and are expected to issue a full statement soon.
Update 10.47: Mr Caines said, “The incident took place on One Way Deepdale in Pembroke. It appears that a male on a motorcycle opened fire on an individual that was on the corner,” and the man then collapsed on Parsons Road. He was taken to KEMH where he being treated for his injuries, and “his condition at this point is unknown.”
Update 11.05pm: Mr Caines said , “At approximately 9:40 pm on Friday, police and first responders attended a report of an accident.
“Now that incident took place on One Way Deepdale in Pembroke. It appears a male on a motorcycle opened fire on an individual that was on the corner.
“This resulted in that man actually traveling down on Two Way Deepdale and collapsing on Parson’s Road. That man was taken to KEMH, where he is presently being treated for his injuries. Now his condition at this point is unknown.
“The Bermuda Police Service are appealing for witnesses or anyone who saw an individual on the bike or individuals acting suspiciously.
“We want you to contact police on 295-0011, or of course you can call the confidential Crimestoppers hotline on 800-8477.
“Anyone in the area that knows anything or has any information no matter how insignificant it may seem to you, police would like to speak for you. We have an active team of investigators from various units within the Bermuda Police Service, they are on scene, and the scene is being formally processed.”
Update 11.20pm: Mr Caines has just confirmed that the shooting victim, a 30-year-old man, has died.
Update Nov 4, 1.14pm: Calling it a “tragic event for the family and for our community,” Shadow Minister of National Security Jeff Baron said he has had the victim’s family “in my mind and my heart since the shooting.”
“And the ugly side of today’s digital world is that the images and videos of the scene spread across the Island just as quickly as word of the shooting. And what we see and hear is traumatic. It proves again that violence impacts our entire island – especially historically harmed communities like this one,” Mr Baron said.
“Please, for the sake our our families and for the sake of our community, and if you can assist, work with the police and social agencies to bring those responsible for this crime to justice”.
