Ministry: ‘Adding Final Touches To New Bus’

February 10, 2018

“Final touches” are being added to the new bus before it is sent for a TCD inspection, the Transport Ministry said, adding that “there are a few more items that need to be acquired and applied to the bus, which should be completed in the next two weeks.”

On January 16th, the Department of Public Transportation took possession of the new bus after the vehicle was cleared by the Customs Department and released to a DPT team this afternoon.

The new bus after it came off the dock last month:

Bernews asked for an update on the matter, and a Government spokesperson said, “Workmen are still adding the final touches to the bus, before it is sent for an inspection by the Transport Control Department.

“There are a few more items that need to be acquired and applied to the bus, which should be completed in the next two weeks.”

The new bus comes as routes are cancelled almost daily, with the Ministry recently saying that it is “difficult to reduce cancellations until we can improve the number of buses on the road.”

The Ministry is expecting to have three more new buses by May, and said that in addition to the new buses, they have “initiated action to overhaul a number of the buses already on the island to breathe new life into them, as part of an overall plan to address the ageing bus fleet.”

  1. Family Man says:

A month in Bermuda and they still can’t get a brand new bus on the road?

Can you imagine a privately owned business operating like that?

  2. Spanner breath says:

Oh dear won’t be long that one will be sidelined.

  3. frank says:

How many new buses do they need and what is the cost of
    A new bus

    • sage says:

Yes, how much do these buses cost, delivered, plus modification? Why are they not ordered to spec, from the factory?

      • Onion Juice says:

I guess they cost less then hosting a sailboat race for Billionaires.

        • Ringmaster says:

I think you’re confused. The OBA ordered this bus. Also the “sailboat race’ took place over a 2 year period. Maybe you mean the cost of supporting a billionaires MRI?

        • Youranorc says:

Wow this is not going well for de plp I have not seen any substantial rebuttal from you in about 6 months. “….de sailboat race….de pepper spray.” Now the election has come and gone you are stuck rehashing the past which is either because you are not up on current events or perhaps there is no defense for the failures of the plp. I think you got bamboozled, I am glad I was on the right side of de 24-12 because I can now tell you “I told you so”.

        • Syrup says:

OJ – answer me this, even though I know you can’t/won’t. Why do cities want to host the Olympics, World Cups, Euros, Cup of Nations, Champions League etc etc etc? It’s because they know they make money from it. EXACTLY the same as Bermuda hosting the Americas’s Cup.

I know you know that is true. I just want you to say you see it too. You’re silence on this would indicate that you also know it’s true.

If you still can’t see it, then you really aren’t a suitable person to be in charge of a keyboard.

Perhaps if I put it into terms you could understand. If I asked you to buy me one Dark ‘n Stormy, and I bought you 5 in return, would you take that deal?

          Over to you.

        • Ok says:

Oj the flipped that money…you got to admit… one bus is funny…lol

        • Stevie says:

Grow up bunion juice. Act your age not your shoe size.

  4. Longtail says:

“……there are a few more items that need to be acquired and applied to the bus, which should be completed in the next two weeks”. Is Transportation so very disorganised that they were so clueless and unprepared for the arrival of this bus? And meanwhile the public continues to suffer with cancellations…….. The Minister needs to come up with a proper explanation or step down.

    • Spanner breath says:

      Get rid of him.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

The Minister needs to deal with the people in the offices responsible for running the busses. They obviously are not doing their jobs. If the Minister does not deal with then then the Premier needs to deal with the Minister.

Privatise it & problems will be solved. No more ‘meetings’. No more paying people to sit around & do nothing. No more drivers saying what the scheduling will be. No more wildcat strikes. No more people standing at bus stops waiting for busses that are not going to arrive.

  5. Truth is killin’’ me... says:

    One bus…one freakin’ bus!!! Jokers.

  6. campervan says:

Finishing touches? FFS. deckchairs on the titanic.
    we are all doomed.

    • Zevon says:

The ten-speaker sound system. Otherwise they will pretend the bus is broken and cancel the route that day.

  7. somuchless says:

…and da plp was best solution for Bermuda? You’re fired.

  8. Stevie says:

Going to be modified as GP vehicle. Included inside is a bar, wifi, a toilet & a television.

  9. somuchless says:

Time it gets on the road, it’a be rusty

  10. puzzled says:

    You laugh.
Some people are making lots off this.

Imagine how long it will take to clean all that glass once it is on the road.
No overtime, sick leave, the price of windex.

    What a freakin joke.

  11. Stevie says:

By the way onion juice quiet yet again.

  12. Triangle Drifter says:

Lemme see, it drove from the dock to the garage on its own did it not? It was fully operational when it left the plant. What is there to do? Install the token machine? How long does that take. Can’t take that long to install it & adjust the height of it just right for the driver to rest his left hand on it & be comfy.

  13. Warlord2 says:

Walter Woban you are a genius, you fixed our bus problem.I told you people to believe in the PLP.(NOT)

  14. PANGAEA says:

Are they a public bus or a pink and blue ” Sports Utility Vehicle” ?

Are they participating in end to end P.T.B. Vr. B.P.S.” Cannon ball” ?

Zero to 60 in 3 seconds is no good for the tires.

    Slow down ! y’all.

  15. Spanner breath says:

Could be used to transport people to news conferences:)

  16. mixitup says:

All comments spoken by people who in four years had nothing to say about the disaster that the Public Transport System turned into… All of a sudden they want the minister fired and heads to roll…. I just can’t with you people.

    • Double S says:

How convenient that you claim the break down began under the OBA.

I suggest you google Roban’s articles on the same issues from 2011.

Why are you always trying to rewrite history? Does the truth hurt that bad.

And you are a racist with the ‘you people’ remark.
