Bollywood Movie To Be Filmed in Bermuda
Part of a Bollywood movie will be filmed in Bermuda in September 2010.
The Indian film market, although somewhat unknown in Western society, is one of the largest in the world. As a point of comparison, in 2002 Bollywood sold 3.6 billion tickets and had total revenues [theatre tickets, DVDs, television etc] of $1.3 billion, whereas Hollywood films sold 2.6 billion tickets and total revenues of $51 billion. Sequences shot overseas have proved a real box office draw for Indian movie goers, so Mumbai film crews have increasingly been filming overseas including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States, Europe and soon-to-be Bermuda.
In February 2010, Premier Dr Ewart Brown visited India, making an arrangement with a Mumbai, India film school in which the school will recommend Bermuda to the Indian entertainment industry and the Government of Bermuda will provide sponsorships to two students every year from Bermuda to study filmmaking at the school.
The production house Tolly2Holly Films, led by Producer Mr Ganesh Indukuri, will be producing the film, “Veera”, which will have some sequences shot in Bermuda. The film stars Ravi Teja, who has previously won four Nandi Awards.
The producer along with their Director, Mr Ramesh Varma, the Executive Producer, Mr Ravi Mudunuri and Assistant Director Mr Murali Krishna visited Bermuda this week to scout for locations for the song sequences appearing in their film. Mr. Ven Subramanian who led the Indian Delegation to Bermuda and who coordinated the Premier’s recent visit to India, will be the Liaison and Coordinator for the filming.
Premier Brown said:
I am very pleased with these early results of working to extend Bermuda’s reach to important global markets. Our beauty and our well developed infrastructure have been discovered by an important, successful industry and Bermuda will reap the benefits of this exposure.
