i think in order to cut some costs, (due to the present economic situation) they should send back all foreigners who have done 1/4 of their time in jail back to where they came from. we should spend that money on rehab for our locals. after all locals are who we have to deal with when they get out, foreigners dont stay here.

I think you might be on to something with this. I always wonder why we don’t send them home from the beginning – why are we wasting this money on them. Deport them and bar them from returning, case closed.

      • It Is What It Is? says:

Thats my question as well? why do we keep them at an estimated cost of roughly $80,000 per prisoner per year? Aren’t we as a country already in debt? why not make money of off them by giving them a huge fine, to be paid before they leave of course and then prevent them from ever travelling here again….surely this can be done….

Why is it only the mules are being caught and not the people funding the runs? These are easy pick ups – “are you carrying drugs? Yes”. Something is not right here and it smells of a cover up to get the real shipments through.

bermudas justice system really needs 2 be balanced now can a local get 5 years for 50k worth of wee dand this american get 2.5 for 100k worth,in the same week and that canadian girl got 3 for 50k of coke….there is no balance on sentencing and until bermuda decides to categorise drugs its only going to get worst, and to think that 80k a year takes care of one inmate..hopefully something gets done about this soon because it seems like we are being robd legally by the government to say we must pay for this foolishness..take britan for example,Class A drugs- Coke, heroin, meth and mdma,Class B,speed and extacy,Class C- weed…but no law on magic mushrooms like in bermuda or is magic mushrooms not a drug?i dont think bermuda is aware of magic mushrooms

    • Geza Wolf says:

In britain weed is B class drug along side amphetimenes. So lets not follow their bad example.

      • serg says:

another narrow minded individual..britan just upgraded to class b,and a island that big they manage to cope better then bermuda and the only reason its class b is because in the uk its skunk not weed and yes there is a huge difference with skunk and weed..

Interesting comments about sending prisoners back home
10% of Jail Population in the UK are Foreign/ Costs £292 Million Per Year to keep locked Up. 800 are Jamaican, so dont wish too much about sending them back home,. You have no idea what you may get back.
