CNN: Bermuda Top 5 Honeymoon Destination

June 14, 2011

[Updated] A CNN travel article entitled ‘Five hot honeymoon destinations’ listed Bermuda, along with Fiji, French Polynesia, Italy and Bali.

The article describes Bermuda as a small island that “gives off a close-knit community feel while providing an exotic flavor. Pastel-colored buildings and crystal blue waters give the scenic impression that you’re far from home without the long journey.”

This is the second time Bermuda has been featured by CNN.com in recent weeks. Late last month the website showcased a slide show of Bermuda images under the heading “Beautiful scenes from Bermuda”.

Update 3:45pm: Minister of Business Development and Tourism Patrice Minors said, “We’re absolutely thrilled that Bermuda has been recognized in this way. Bermuda is undoubtedly one of the most unique honeymoon destinations. CNN.com is read by millions around the world, and this kind of added exposure is wonderful for our tourism product. We hope that this latest recognition will translate into couples deciding to spend their honeymoon on our shores.”

Who did we pay at CNN to get top 5, and how much did this cost to say this. Honestly, minus the crime and other factors, top 5 seems a little false. Im just going to take that this statistic was based on the US findings and not a worldy view or perspective body of people.

@I dont think so: You have no pride for yourself or your country. You talk as if you walk around this beautiful island disgusted with what you see. Many of my family and university friends from foreign love it here: the weather, the beauty, the pink beaches, the people… the whole vibe. You probably don’t notice it because you have the privilege of see it everyday. If you look at Bermuda with fresh eyes… this sh$t IS paradise, whether you realize it or not…

    • Baffled says:

Considering the FACT that the vast majority of our tourist come from the US,let’s hope you’re correct!

  2. SMH says:

So negative. I hope you are not a bermudian selling your own country short like this.
You never hear citizens of other countries being so dismissive of their homes. All countries have their share of issues.
Most visitors to Bermuda that I know of have a great time and think it is beautiful and friendly and would love to come back.
We need to embrace our attributes and all of us need to become tourism ambassadors.

    • simplepassa says:

i agree 100% with “SMH”, tired of the negative remarks about our island. The ISLAND is beautiful, what goes on in it might not be, but where ever you go in this world, its the SAME everywhere.

    • sandgrownan says:

Well, I think the problem with Bermuda and fundamentally Bermudians, is that they (we) believe our own press. We actually think we are the coolest, friendliest peole on Earth. We believe our sh*t don’t stink.

We are collectively so self-unaware that any criticism is tainted becasue it’s assumed their are other motives. Woe betide anyone that points out that customs at the airport can be less than friendly, that taxcs suck, that the public transport system is falling apart and, finally, that their is nothing to do here.

Bermudians simply cannot hack criticism because they genuinely believe they can do no worng.

Given the antics of the PLP, particularly the previous administration, one would be forgiven for assuming that we paid for this award…..

  3. True Bermudian says:

The reason people make negative remarks about our Island is because negativity is everywhere.

From the moment Tourists get off the plane coming through immigration and customs, to the angry cabbie who speeds them to their destination tourists in Bermuda are not feeling wanted. And they certainly don’t “Feel The Love”.

Bermuda is a tired old spiteful unappreciative joke of a tourist destination now.

  4. Honestly says:

I still think we have a fighting chance – it revolves around our people and who the tourists interact with. Each and every person can do their part simply by giving a helping hand, giving directions, taking photos for tourists and just generally being nice to everyone.

Many people come to visit friends and family here and have a great time and think the island is beautiful.

Let’s not let a few bad apples ruin the whole island.

  5. Spectator says:

Stay positive everyone. It’s not where we (or they) travel, it’s the people we meet along the way.

Small actions like helping with directions go a long way and I think the positive energy in Bermuda outweighs the negatively, except maybe on online threads!

    Pay it Forward.

Sad that an independent survey can tell us that we still have something to be proud of and the first post is taring it down. Regardless of our issues, we still live in a very beautiful place, many other countries would pay us to have our problems. Thanks CNN for publishing this, I’m very proud that Bermuda make the cut.

  7. CanadianLuv says:

    Congrats Bermuda!!!
This is Amazing for our island, especially in this economic time!
