BIU Signs Wage Agreement With Government
Government and the Bermuda Industrial Union have signed off on an agreement for a 1.65 percent wage increase for workers backdated to January 1.
The settlement — signed at a ceremony held at the BIU headquarters yesterday [Jul.5] — ends a protracted pay dispute for Government workers which dates back to the start of the year.
Assistant Cabinet Secretary Judith Hall-Bean and BIU president Chris Furbert signed the new agreement on behalf of Government and the unionised workers.
Every BIU member on the public payroll will now receive an additional $17 per week as Government dropped its initial proposal for a wage freeze. But Government refused to back down in the face of union demands to lift a ban on overtime.
I guess it is nice that someone will receive a pay raise this year… Most people in the private section have had pay freezes…
Dey gotta pay to play……….
The backdated funds. Where is this coming from? I am very interested.
BNTB loan facility?
Don’t worry, your kids (and theirs) will be paying for it.
Perhaps the BIU will issue a credit to the Government, as a result of monies owed from the Berkeley Institute bond!
One pay increase at a time … not that we have the money to pay for them … keep ‘em feelin’ good … An election a comin’ .. Keep buying them votes ..
The crash is going to be unbearable .
Wonder if she had to wash her hands after the photo was taken?
You almost made me squirt my water out my nose with that one? Are you saying she is dicty or he is dirty?
I work for a re/insruance company and we have a pay freeze in effect as does the fairmont hotels and neither my company or the fairmonts are in debt. This is just plain irrespnosible.
Any word on their overdue account reporting?
Well Done !!
Well Done!! Assistant Cabinet Secretary Judith Hall-Bean and BIU president Chris Furbert any others on then negotiation team, for keeping the increase down to 1.65%, I think that is the lowest ever excepted by the Union or any Union.
“I think that is the lowest ever excepted by the Union or any Union.”
I’m sure you meant ‘accepted’
Who’s the odd looking guy in that photo!? Looks like a ex-pat…quick get the torch’s!
The big question is, will he vote for the PLP along with the others. Still plenty of cash left over to pay a few more off.
