September 21, 2011

George OuterbridgeBermuda’s Postmaster General George Outerbridge, was recently elected as the Secretary General of the Caribbean Postal Union [CPU].

Mr. Outerbridge, who is currently serving as the Acting Director of Labour and Training, was elected Secretary General at the CPU’s 14th Annual Convention Conference, which was held on Curacao earlier this month. The theme of the conference was “Regional Postal Sector Policy for National Postal Transformation”.

The main goals of the international postal body is to improve the response to customers’ requirements for postal facilities of all kinds; to facilitate the improvement and security of postal services; to co-ordinate postal training arrangements and postal operational services; and to promote international postal co-operation in the spirit and observance of the Acts of the Universal Postal Union.

Mr. Outerbridge said today, “I am extremely humbled to have been chosen to head such a prestigious group. I believe that it’s critical for the leadership to develop a good understanding of the various aspects of the entire Caribbean and how postal development could be part of its survival and strategic direction.

“This is why our liaison with CARICOM is such an important tactical move. We are currently in a joint process with the CARICOM Secretariat to develop a regional postal sector policy.”

I hope the Caribbean Postal Union never send George Outerbridge any correspondence that is not properly addressed or missing a punctuation mark because it is going to be RETURNED TO SENDER by the lovely Bermuda General Post Office!!!!!

Just for fun, I am going to send a letter addressed to the Caribbean Postal Union, St. Lucia and another to Caribbean Postal Union with its full address to see which one gets returned to me.
