Richardson To Launch CD At City Hall Shows

November 4, 2011

A leading Bermudian musician has strived to make his mellifluous work a thing of beauty — and, to stick with the proverb, he’s now hoping audiences will find it a joy forever when he premieres numbers from his upcoming CD at two Hamilton concerts.

Twenty-year Bermuda music veteran James Richardson is presenting “The Beautiful Things Concert”, to be held at the City Hall Theatre on November 11 and 12th November at 7:30pm.

The event features Mr. Richardson’s original compositions, as well as well-loved classics all performed as solo piano works. In keeping with the solo instrumentalist theme, and to provide needed exposure to the wealth of talent currently in Bermuda, the opening act features “The Young Virtuosos” – three youth musicians also demonstrating their proficiency as soloists.

The concert serves as the launch of Mr. Richardson’s CD release,”Beautiful Things”. The CD will be on sale during the concert and will also be available throughout the island at all quality retail music outlets.

“I have worked as a professional musician for over 20 years and have witnessed many changes to Bermuda’s entertainment industry.” Mr. Richardson explained. “It is our job as artists to consciously develop our craft on a personal level. All of us must realize that each of us is an active participant in our collective culture.

“The fact that culture is not static leads me to believe that what I do as an individual has an effect, however small, on what we call Bermudian Culture. This is the work I’ve produced for the Beautiful Things concert. This body of work is part of my contribution to our culture and a celebration of what is beautiful in life and I’m proud to present it to the world.”

Commenting on the addition of the “Young Virtuosos” section of the concert Mr. Richardson said, “I felt it was important to give young aspiring artists an opportunity to be a part of the ‘Beautiful Things’ concert. There is an incredible amount and quality of talent on the island.

“However, in order to properly hone ones craft, it is critical to be exposed to performance experiences such as these. I received this as a young artist myself from individuals such as Shine Hayward. Therefore, I was more than happy to extend this opportunity to these three aspiring artists.”

The “Young Virtuosos” demonstrate a keen passion for their craft and were chosen after auditioning for Mr. Richardson. They are Somersfield Academy student, Shamar Morris (violin); Cedarbridge Academy student, Noah Furbert (Cello); and Cedarbridge Academy student, Adrien Lewis (flute).

Tickets for the “Beautiful Things” concert are available online at www.bdatix.bm and are $50 and $75 for patrons.

Patrons are invited to attend a special reception to be held immediately after the event at the Bermuda Society of the Arts and will receive a complimentary copy of the “Beautiful Things” CD.

The patron reception is proudly sponsored by Burrows Lightbourne Limited and VSB TV-11.
