40-Yr-Old Man Admits Stealing Beer & Sodas

November 6, 2012

In Magistrates Court this morning [Nov 6], a 40-year-old man admitted stealing sodas from a Church, and bottles of beer from Warwick Camp.

Maxwell Smith pleaded guilty to breaking into Christ Church in Warwick and stealing cases of sodas in 2008, and also admitted breaking into buildings at Warwick Camp in August 2012 and stealing bottles of beer on two occasions.

He broke into the Bermuda Regiment’s Warrant Officer’s and Sergeants Mess and stole six bottles of beer on one occasion, and stole twelve bottles of beer the second time.

For each of the burglaries, the Police were called and matched the fingerprints found with those of Mr Smith. Prior to Senior Magistrate Archie Warner making a decision, and speaking in mitigation, Duty Counsel Larry Scott suggested that Mr Smith might benefit from an ‘intervention.’

Reviewing Mr Smith’s record, the Senior Magistrate said that: “Mr Smith was one of the first successful graduates of the drug treatment program. He seems to like the Army. He broke in up there in 2000.”

Speaking for himself, Mr Smith said: “Somebody tried to kill me and burnt my house down. I gave up. I’ll take any intervention that you give me.”

Magistrate Warner ordered a Social Inquiry Report and a Bermuda Assessment Referral Centre report. He set 19th December as a date for sentencing, and remanded Mr Smith into custody until then.

  2. Real Talk (original) says:

And to think most people are trying to sneak out…

  3. wow says:

I guess he is found now and now doing his time.

  4. terry says:

Well if they matched the fingerprints from 2008…..what took so long.
They must have been on record prior or they had no case against him back then because he had access.

  5. Karma hits says:

I have no sympathy for him. He is a lifetime criminal. Lock him up and throw away the key!

    • terry says:

If he is that bad, why don’t you say whom you are.
      Chicken sht.

      • Come Correct says:

That makes absolutely no sense…at all. If he’s a lifetime criminal, which technically according to our laws I know he is, let him know who you are…smh. With that said and not condoning his acts, he’s not as bad as most people would believe after reading about him. He actually talked me out of doing something very stupid that probably would have landed me in a similar situation as most of these wayward youths. His actions may not give you that impression but how many of us take our own advice? He’s made some bad decisions, so have I, we all do.______

Keep your head up Doogles, you’ve jumped life’s hurdles before.

  6. Pastor Syl Hayward says:

Is this the same Maxwell Smith that was missing recently? Was he being held on remand and that’s why they couldn’t find him?

  7. terry says:

  10. CHEEKUMS BIE says:

“Somebody tried to kill me and burnt my house down. I gave up

SO if someone tries to kill me and they burn my house down, for protection i will steal some sunkist sodas and a couple of elephants, and that will make my problems go away????…..I forgot drinking sodas makes one invincible and drinking beers gives one the power and ability to fix burnt houses

  11. Future says:

Funny thing is, I was conscripted along side max in the 90s…never thought he would be risking jail to get back into Warwick camp….sheesh.
