Cayman Islands Election: PPM Win 9/18 Seats

The Cayman Islands People’s Progressive Movement [PPM] has won nine of 18 seats, one short of a majority needed to control the legislature, the Associated Press is reporting.

Five independent candidates won seats, while former Premier McKeeva Bush’s United Democratic Party won four seats. Mr Bush is presently facing corruption charges.

Media reports stated that the PPM will have to form a coalition government to lead the territory, with PPM leader Alden McLaughlin likely to become the British Overseas Territory’s next Premier.

According to the Cayman news, Speaker of the House Randy Horton was an election observer.
