June 11, 2013

Catlin Group Limited has made a $1 million donation to the Why it Matters capital campaign, which is raising funds for the upgrade of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital [KEMH].

Stephen Catlin, Chief Executive of Catlin Group Limited, says, “The new acute care wing will be a state of the art facility that the Island can be very proud of. All of us at Catlin are delighted to provide financial support to this important campaign that will help the entire Bermuda community.”

Rees Fletcher, Co-Chair of BHCT’s International Companies Committee for the Why it Matters campaign added: “International business is a significant part of the Bermuda community and we are grateful to Catlin Group Limited for its support of the Why it Matters campaign.

“It’s been exciting to see the entire community come together for this, the largest fundraising effort in the island’s history, to help rebuild KEMH as an exceptional centre of care for everyone who calls Bermuda home.”

This latest donation takes the running total for the campaign to $29 million since its launch in April 2011. BHCT is leading this capital campaign with a target of $40 million to put towards the KEMH Redevelopment Project. The project’s overarching aim is to deliver an enhanced level of hospital care for the benefit of the whole community.

Currently, the Trust is reaching out across the community to local and international companies, organisations, associations, families and individuals, asking everyone to play their part in contributing to our revitalised, state-of-the-art hospital—and to the best healthcare for Bermuda.

Other companies who have donated for the new hospital include RenaissanceRe who also donated $1 million, BF&M who donated $250,000, Lindo’s who donated $500,000, and KPMG who donated $250,000.

  1. Young Bermudian says:

Wow this hospital sure is milking all of the extra dollars that could be used to stimulate Bermuda’s economy or give small jobs to people who are out of work. #justsayin

    • Lordgivemestrength says:

You’re a complete idiot. You think the new hospital is building itself and no construction workers got work out of it? This was very cool of Catlin and you come making a ridiculous remark sounding all ungrateful #justsayin

    • Older expat says:

You need to grow up, young bermudian. This is a GREAT gesture. Graham Pewter who runs Catlin has devoted so much time to giving money back, and YOU ARE COMPLAINING !! Really you know nothing, hats of Graham, Stephen Catlin, this is a lot of money – no matter who you are. Thank you.

Next week I look to Belco, Butterfielld, Marketplace, Cablevision, Northrock etc doing the same. BERMUDIAN companies….your turn….

23 April, 2013, Belco donates $1,000 to BZS.

Who’s bill is pushing $1,000 every month. Exactly.

        Thanks a bunch Belco.

  2. Justin says:

An amazing contribution that will pay dividends for a very long time to the people of Bermuda. Thanks so much!

  3. The Haves and Have NOts says:

A new hospital yea ok, everything we are doing is an expense nothing is actually bringing money in nor is it raising unemployment. SO i agree with Young bermudian who is probably out of work like myself and Catlin could have hired 10 bermudians to do whatever with that ONE Million. Bermuda needs to make money and stop spending it on things Bermudians wouldn’t even be up for hire.. IM sure all the Canadians Jamaicans whoever else will be flooding that new hospital. And with the presence of serious cases im sure Air Ambulance will still be steady cause none of the DRs we bring are any good. They here because they couldn’t get the DR position wherever they from, but Bermuda takes them on for sure. Bermuda needs to operate as a business and not as a elite destination. Because that s$%t only helps few not all.. Damn shame.

    • Zombie Apocalypse says:

Um, when a company GIVES $10m to this, it’s money that will be spent on building work at the hospital. That will reduce unemployment, and will inject $10m into Bermuda’s economy.

    • Lordgivemestrength says:

All the idiots are out today. A company makes a million dollar donation and people complain. Catlin employs tons of people you moron. If you don’t like where they donated their money, you go ahead and start your own company, make a million and donate it. The sense of entitlement is sickening.

      • Luis Suarez says:

Totally agree. These people will be happy when Catlin moves to Switzerland and we are all out of work.

        • Ya got me Rollin ......NOT says:

          What people you referring to??

    • Red says:

      “Nor is it raising unemployment”

Perhaps there is a reason you are out of a job. You could go back to school of course. Or you could sit on a wall getting bitter at how it’s everyone else’s fault.

    • navin johnson says:
