Former Enron CFO To Speak In Bermuda

February 27, 2014

AndrewSFastow[Updated] yCompliance will host the 2nd Annual Financial Crime & Compliance Seminar at the Fairmont Southampton in Bermuda on October 9, 2014, and a former Enron CFO who spent years in prison will be the guest speaker.

Keynote addresses will be made by former Enron CFO Andrew S. Fastow [pictured], former Turks and Caicos Attorney General Huw Shepheard and other distinguished personalities.

“Securing a keynote speaker like Andrew Fastow for our 2nd annual YC seminar will be hard to outdo in future years,” said McKeisha Smith, Director of yCompliance.

Mrs. Smith added “Who better to speak on the topic of integrity and what’s right vs. what’s wrong than Mr. Fastow. This year’s seminar will prove to be an event not to miss for compliance gurus and other professionals.”

A spokesperson said, “Mr. Fastow was the Chief Financial Officer of Enron Corp. from 1998 – 2001. In 2004, he pled guilty to two counts of securities fraud, and was sentenced to six years in federal prison.

“He completed his sentence in 2011, and now lives with his family in Houston, Texas. Mr. Fastow currently provides litigation support at a law firm, and he consults with Directors and management of public companies on how best to identify potentially critical finance, accounting, compensation, and cultural issues.

“Despite today’s more regulated and enlightened business environment, we continue to witness “Enron-esque” failures of corporate governance.

“Enron’s former CFO will make observations about how the ambiguity and complexity of laws and regulations breeds opportunity for problematic decisions and will discuss what questions corporate directors, management, attorneys, and accountants should ask in order to ensure that their companies not only follow the rules, but uphold the principles behind them.

“As one of the world’s most reputable offshore financial centers, Bermuda is home to many foreign companies who operate under the British Overseas Territory’s robust financial legislative framework. The theme for the 2014 seminar is “Who can you trust?”

“Given Bermuda’s current political climate and Government’s continued battle to combat financial crime, this seminar is one of the key initiatives to position Bermuda at the forefront of action against bribery & corruption and other financial crimes.”

The seminar program as well as the full profiles of the speakers and panelists can be retrieved here. Early-bird tickets are priced at BM$395 before 31 May 2014. More details about the seminar as well as registration and sponsorship information can be found on the yCompliance website or by emailing info@ycompliance.com.

Update 3.24pm: To clarify, the organisers said Mr Fastow is not being compensated for coming to Bermuda. “yCompliance does not support the compensation of convicted criminals,” said a spokesperson.

He should be on our Stop List. Funny how these jokers always find a way to get rich by doing nothing.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Don’t let that rock hit any of the glass of your house.

      • Impressive says:

Oh My Triangle, I wonder why this gentleman is above criticism unlike manner of the other persons you have attacked who have had opposing political views. oh the irony

  2. Bdalady says:

This man is a criminal who stole the livelihoods of many many hard working people, who lost everything because of him. And now he makes a lot of money on the seminar circuit. It’s insulting and he should not make money based on his abhorrent past. He is not a ‘distinguished personality’ by any stretch. Sad that he is a keynote speaker at this event. Hope he’s not getting paid.

  3. Dinosaurmedia says:

Why not get loyd Blanfein or Janie Dimon down here to comment on honest banking practices while we are at it…

    This is Orwellian.

Yes some sympathetic to what ever cause this guy may represent will no doubt say “whom better to catch a thief than a thief” or some gibberish along those lines.

Kids in the US are doing time for simple drug posession charges – this guy and his cronies ruined thousands of peoples lives and he gets paid to speak worldwide…it certainly helps in this western world to be white and white collared…no I am not black so dont start.

How about getting someone to speak on compliance that actually complies with rules and regulations – in the Finalcial, especially Banking sectors (Wall Street Banks anyways – the Big Six) that may be a hard person to find…Do I need to link to the dozens of stories of bank and financial institutions breaking regulations and paying slap on the wrist fines.

    This is a Sick Joke.

  4. Dinosaurmedia says:

    Apologies on the spelling errors….

  5. Dinosaurmedia says:

Let us issue the currencies and we care not who makes the laws…the central bankers motto…

  6. Navin Johnson says:

Amazing that he would be invited to speak when the US stops people who have had marijuana possession charges in Bermuda…..

  7. HeyBye says:

These shady people always hit the lecture circle, sell movie rights after they do time in one of those “executive prisons”,still make a killing and come out smelling like roses.
He is not getting my $395!!!

  8. Bdalady says:

Ok I am disgusted by this. He makes a living off his actions, while many people lost everything because of Enron. What a messed up world we live in.

  9. Umm.... says:

    Get Gordon Gekko next year.

  10. nuffin but the truth says:

MORE Criminals and Crooks coming to Bermuda!

    WAKE UP FOOLS!

  11. Yes I says:

They’re whole business is set up to get rich. Somehow going to jail gives them credibility under the pretense that they are rehabilitated and shall share information for the public interest. He will most likely have lots of information, a lot like a catholic priest speaking about redemption after serving time for child molestation.

  12. Gotham says:

Absolutely right, Fastow is just a convicted crook and should not be feted in any way.

  13. pebblebeach says:

Really…Seminar theme “Who can you trust” certainly not a former Enron Executive…

  14. Pirates all around us says:

This b++stard destroyed the lives of thousands of people that worked for Enron for years(they were forced to have their pension deductions to by Enron stock) and then ouside people that invested in the Enron companies. So many people have not been able to retire and peoples investments lost without reguard. This white collar crime runs too deep and still happens in bermuda. They might as well learn from the best. Soon , we will have to “walk on hamilton “soon to denounce blatant thievry thru corporate greed.

  15. Lois says:

I think its amazing to hear from someone who committed white collar crime- brings it closer and makes it more real. props

  16. The Fact says:

He is not being compensated. Research his other presentations and you will see that his speeches are adding value to the financial sector and to students. Just like a rehabilitated drug addict telling kids to say NO. Same thing.

    • Jah Love says:

I disagree,a drug addict inflicts upon themselves and their loved ones, this crook affected thousands.
People in their later stages of life, left penniless and for many too late in life to try to make up for it,by going back to work.
While he jets around the lecture circuit in comfort there are retirees with nothing to their name and have to end up being door greeters at Walmart at age 70 to put food on their table.
In addition, his name should not be associated with Bda, we are having a difficult time enough rebuilding our economy.

    • PBanks says:

Let him do it from prison, then. A video-conference, if you will.

  17. Family Man says:

In future years they could always get Andre to speak. As long as he’s not too busy communing with angels.

  18. Bull in a hurry says:

Next year maybe Mike Misick! LOL

    • Family Man says:

He has to be free to travel, so very unlikely for next year.

  19. No Share Value says:

Absolute BS. May I suggest Bernie Maddoff or Sir. Mr Cricket ( can’t remember his name ) This person screwed over so many people with Enron . Unless they are looking for wau=ys to stea>>?? Sorry he shouldn’t even be entertained to enter the island.

  20. sassymama2 says:

ahh more crooks coming to the island

  21. pabear says:

we should invite some enron x shareholders here for this they would love to hear this a**
