The $38 million luxury motor yacht Lady Joy arrived in Bermuda yesterday afternoon [Apr 22], with the 157-ft vessel docked at the Bermuda Yacht Services facility on Ordnance Island in St George’s.

Built in 2007 by Christensen, the Lady Joy sleeps up to 12 guests in 6 staterooms, is capable of carrying up to 11 crew onboard and offers elevator service to all decks.

With a cruising speed of 12 knots and a maximum speed of 14 knots, the Marshall Islands flagged vessel is available for charter with listed prices starting from $225,000 a week.

The Lady Joy is owned by Grammy-nominated songwriter Denise Rich, the ex-wife of financier Marc Rich who received a controversial pardon from former U.S. President Bill Clinton.

Mr. Rich fled from the U.S. to Switzerland in 1983 after he was indicted on charges of fraud, racketeering, illegal trading and evading millions in income taxes. He remained on the FBI’s Most Wanted List for almost two decades, narrowly escaping capture a few times.

Mr. Clinton granted him a pardon in 2001, and following the pardon it was learned that Mr. Rich’s ex-wife Denise Rich, had made large donations to the Democratic Party and the Clinton library.

In 2012 Ms. Rich gave up her U.S. citizenship in favour of Austrian citizenship through her deceased father, a move reports said could “likely save tens of millions of dollars in future taxes.”

Ms Rich is reported to throw “lavish parties” onboard the Lady Joy in St Tropez, with guests including Joan Collins, Jerry Hall, Magic Johnson, Star Jones, and Ivana Trump.

Steve Biko: I gather from your comment that you are saying the yacht owners (or the wealthy) are criminals. You must know something the rest of us don’t? You and numerous others have yet to realize that if it weren’t for the wealthy – many who have worked extremely hard for what they’ve got – quite a number of us wouldn’t have the jobs we do. You also fail to realize the money these people donate to numerous organizations world wide – even Bermuda!
