Over 100 Volunteers To Search For Mr. Grange

May 8, 2014

[Updated] Despite extensive search efforts by both the police and community over the past six days, William Grange has still not been located.

Mr. Grange — who suffers from short term memory loss — arrived in Bermuda from Napanee, Canada last week and has not been seen since approximately 10.00pm on Friday [May 2] evening.

The 67 year old came for a 10-day vacation with his wife, and was staying at the Cambridge Beaches Resort in Sandys. His son John Grange has traveled to Bermuda, and speaking at a press conference earlier this week he said that his father may have went for a walk and become confused.

Mr. Grange was last seen wearing beige pants, a blue shirt, brown jacket and brown shoes and is described as a Caucasian male, 5’9″ tall with white hair. His son has indicated that his father may possibly have a grey beard by now, so he would appear different than the photo below.

John Grange has said his father may be confused due to his memory loss and could be hiding, and asked everyone to look in their sheds, backyards and anywhere where someone could hide.

Cambridge Beaches Resort — where Mr. Grange was staying — have organised multiple search parties, and have appealed to the general public to thoroughly search their own property/neighborhoods, regardless of parish.

The Police previously noted that they checked all ports of entry, and said Mr. Grange has not officially left the island. They have also followed up on reported sightings, however unfortunately none have panned out.

Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of William Grange is urged to contact the main police telephone number 295-0011 immediately, reporting all information.

Update 12.31pm: A statement from Cambridge Beaches said, “We have had a great response from our calls for volunteers, for our scheduled 11am and 6pm community searches at Cambridge Beaches.

“We would like to notify the public that we will continue to have these scheduled community searches, until further notice. For anyone interested in assisting Cambridge Beaches staff and the Grange family, please meet at the front reception area.

“Please remain vigilant as every set of eyes is critical. Many thanks to the community for their continued support, during this difficult time.”

Update 12.33pm:  Over 100 volunteers will be setting out to search for Mr. Grange today, the police said. The full police statement is below:

Today, coordinated efforts by the Bermuda Regiment, Department of Corrections and H.M. Customs personnel as well as family members and local residents will see in excess of 100 volunteers searching for missing 67 year old Canadian visitor William ‘Bill’ Grange, who was last seen on the evening of Friday, May 2nd at his vacation accommodation, the Cambridge Beaches Resort in Sandys parish.

It is anticipated that more family members will be travelling to the island this week to further assist ongoing search efforts.

Mr. Grange, who suffers from short term memory loss, was last seen wearing beige pants, a blue shirt, brown jacket and brown shoes. He is described as a Caucasian male, 5’9″ tall with white hair and by now likely a few days beard growth.

If someone fitting the description of Mr. Grange is seen, members of the public are urged to engage with the individual and contact police immediately.

This morning, two police Marine Unit boats with a contingent of family members have begun a boat to boat search of the moored vessels in the Mangrove Bay, Cambridge Beaches Resort area.

In addition, 30 land based police officers along with several police cadets will conduct further searches in various areas. All hospital facilities have been checked without success and officers continue to follow up on all alleged sightings of the missing 67 year old Canadian visitor island-wide.

My two boys grew up with the Grange Family when we lived in Napanee Ontario Canada, just to let the Family know that we are thinking of them daily, and hope there will be a quick solution and that Bill will be found soon, BILL BROOKS, Peterborough Ontario canada

  2. Aware says:

Get the regiment, the police force and every volunteer on the island – ask all civil servants to search for this visitor – seize this opportunity to undo some of the damage done by the refusal of the Rebecca Middleton videographer team. ELECTED OFFICIALS – ACT NOW!

Send a ripple effect through the world that we care for our visitors.

    • DarkSideofTheMoon says:

Ask civil servants??? You people make me laugh…

I hope they find this man.

    • Hurricane says:

@ Aware, OMG you sound so unaware

  3. Poor says:

The Bermuda Police have been very poor this past week. Not one search map has been produced, no mention of a cash reward to help find this man.

Here I am now wanting to help find this man and his family, and I’m simply being told to start at Cambridge Beaches without any direction.

Learn lessons on this case Bermuda, we’ve mishandled the situation and time is running out.

    • Really ?!? says:

@Poor – and why would you need a cash reward to look for a fellow human being – if you are being told to start from Cambridge Beaches then start looking – be like Nike – Just do It.

    • Seriously?? says:

The police have actually been stretched thin working this plus other cases. I was involved in a group that called Cambridge Beaches to ask where to start, we went up there, and they gave us a map with an area circled. So there are people besides the police who are organizing this search. While out searching, we passed an officer on one of the scramblers moving through the tracks. BPS is out and doing what they can while still maintaining order on the island and working other active cases, but there are only so many of them. This is why the above groups are pitching in as well.

      • Oh no says:

I was out searching Tuesday. I was a bit late arriving at the Resort and spoke to the GM at Cambridge Beach Resort and he gave me flyers and told me where to look. I looked in Dockyard and worked my way back to The Resort. I saw Mr Grange’s son and talked and received more information. Wednesday evening I was out with a friend and we both looked from Shelly Bay towards Flatts. Looking in the trees and behind the bus stops and along the water shore. We did what we could. We will be out looking until he is found.
To his family & friends I will be searching until we find him.

    • me says:

While a cash reward would be helpful in a crime related case (people are usually reluctant to give info in these situations) I don’t think one is needed here. Most people are out there because they care not because they need a money reward!

    • Hurricane says:

@ Poor…….face it, your not really trying to help. Quit the BS

  4. 2013 says:

    Any cameras catch anything?

  5. ? says:

    Bernews,

Is this his first visit to Bermuda?
Does he know anyone here on the island?
A previous article mentioned that there were reported sightings of him in the East. Could he have gotten onto the ferry with the crowds of “End to End” walkers? Has the authorities searched down the east side?

  6. charles says:

    what about rudy smith

    • Oh no says:

I assisted in the search for Mr. Smith as well.

      • Redo says:

Do u want a medal or something?

        • Oh no says:

No I would like to have found the missing men. Not knowing them just want to be able to help where I can. I would want someone to do it for my family or friend. So instead of sitting back and watching it and saying I hope he is found I am out with a few friends helping. Knowing how I would feel lost I would want people to help look for me.

    • Toodle-oo says:

Although they’re both missing and it would be wonderful to finally get to the bottom of Rudy’s disappearance the difference is is that no-one knows where Mr Grange is.

      • Hurricane says:

@ Toodle-oo- are your serious? You sound as though we know where Rudy Smith is……do tell

        • Toodle-oo says:

          Are YOU serious ? ?
Where Mr Grange is is a mystery but there is no doubt that there’s more than one individual on this rock who knows what happened to Rudy.
One would have to be naive in the extreme to not understand that.
And no , I do not know where Rudy is or what happened to him but like thousands of others I wish I did .

          • Hurricane says:

Sounds like you have it all figured out. I don’t know that “no one knows where Mr. Grange is” but, of course, I’m not as smart as you

    • Innit Rudy did not get all this attention not by far…

  7. Have the cab services been contacted all cab drivers to see if they picked him up and taken somewere? Has his credit card history been checked? Has all bus drivers and ferry drivers been asked have they seen him onboard? Does he have money to eat? Has all restaurants been checked to see if he has come in for food? Not only is he on anti-seizure medication and has not had it in now 6 days but is he hungry and would look to eat… Just a food for thought… Charlie in England

  8. No Cash for you...... says:

@Poor, how about I give you $10.00, just to stay out of our way so you can take a nap this afternoon……

  9. good boy says:

Why no has bin out like this to look for rudy smith.. Or locals that go missing.

  10. Truth Seeker says:

Have the police here or overseas look into Mr. Grange’s email and or phone call log and or text messages just prior to him leaving Cananda and while here in Bermuda. Have the police here or overseas check to ensure that Mr. Grange’s credit cards have not been used? Something just doesn’t add up with this case.

  11. ABC says:

dem police 2 busy up and down north shore

what a bunch of losers wen u have a person missin they worryin bout radar all of a sudden

    bps is a joke ±

  12. Cardine Alice says:

This isn’t “just” a missing person report, the person concerned is vulnerable. I doubt the “conspiracy theorists” suggestions of checks on his credit cards etc. will come to anything.

It does seem a pity we do not have thermal imaging to pick up hot spots.

Having headed out with my dog for a snoop this morning I was amazed at how, for a small island, it is a maze of jungle, outbuildings, coast line.

I can only hope that a professional, mapped (gps) search was conducted from day 1 as every hour counts.

  13. Gina re says:

May Mr.Grange be found safely. My family grew up with the Granges in Napanee and it’s really hit home. We pray for his safe return. And for the losers bickering back and forth on this comment page, keep focused and this bs out of the search .

  14. Inon Imus says:

Let’s hope he gets found soon. EHH
