Studio One Offering Hip Hop Dance Classes
Studio One is offering drop-in hip-hop dance classes, instructed by Rikkai Scott. The classes are designed to introduce the hip-hop culture through the element of dance, beginning with a warm-up to stretch and tone the body and concluding with an energetic dance routine.
Two different classes will be offered, including the Beginners/Cardio Hip Hop Dance Class and the Intermediate/Advanced Hip Hop Dance Class.
A spokesperson said, “The Beginners/Cardio Hip Hop Dance Class offers exciting and fun hip hop cardio that will get you in to the groove, along with stretching, sit-ups and some push-ups. The warm up will get your whole body toned and ready for most exciting hip-hop dance combination.
“No experience necessary, just a willingness to have fun and get a great workout.
“The Intermediate/Advance Hip Hop Dance Class, held every week, brings a new and exciting hip-hop combination. The pace is energetic and the class is pumped. The emphasis is on having fun and feeling good while dancing hard and getting a great workout.
“Whether first timer or weekly regular, each hip-hop dance class will leave you with a sense of accomplishment and empowerment.
“Rikkai K. Scott is a graduate from the London Contemporary Dance School where he received a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts. His dance training began at the age of four at United Dance Productions learning hip-hop and tap. Later, he decided to take technical classes in ballet, modern, jazz, and musical theatre.”
“He also taught there as student tap teacher for 4 years [2001-2005]. He has travelled to Washington DC [Duke Ellington Dance School], New York [Tap Kids], California [Debbie Allen Dance Academy], London [London Contemporary Dance School] , Amsterdam [de Kiss moves] to gain experience and knowledge in his dance career.
“Rikkai has also received scholarships from the National Dance Foundation, Arts Council, Peter Leitner Arts Scholarship, Dance Bermuda, and The Ross “Blackie” Talbot Foundation.
“Rikkai is well versed in tap, hip-hop, contemporary, improvisations, and urban dance. He has had the pleasure in working with many artists such as Richard Alston Dance Company, Jeanie Steele, and Doroytta Kiss. He performed and toured with “de Kiss Moves”, a professional dance company which introduces technical styles of dance such as hip-hop, urban, whacking, contemporary, improvisation, and pop locking.
“Teaching young children and young adults are importance to him as he is enthusiastic to show them how to be creative on stage.”
The classes will be held on over two months Tuesdays from 6.00pm to 7.00pm [beginners/cardio] and on Fridays from 6.00pm to 7.00pm [intermediate/advance], with an end of term performance.
The classes are open to everyone 10-years-old and up, with classes to take place at Studio One at 1 Clumberland House on Victoria Street. Classes cost $12 for students and $20 regularly, or $175 for the full-term.
