Bermuda Scouts Celebrate Island Jamboree
This past weekend the Bermuda Scout Association celebrated their annual island wide jamboree, with 56 Cubs, Scouts and Explorers between the ages of 7-16 spending the weekend camping on Paget Island. Supervised by 16 leaders, the boys were able to participate in a variety of activities including badge work, and the outward-bound course.
They were also treated to a talk from the Sgt. Maj Jeffrey Patterson of the Bermuda Regiment Boat Troupe, as well as a tour of Fort Cunningham. The scouts were conveyed to Paget Island on Friday evening and returned Sunday afternoon via boats supplied by the Department of Youth and Sport.
Of the weekend long camp, Chief Commissioner of Scouts, Geoff Rothwell remarked, “The camp is a great way to unite the scouting community. As we are divided by various locations and the difference in age groups, it is always a lot of fun to bring the boys as well as the leaders together. We had a great time on Paget Island, and did not let Sunday’s wet weather dampen our spirits”.
The island wide jamboree is the only event that brings together the different scouting units as most camping excursions are arranged for each individual troupe.
