Brownies To Receive Masterworks Scholarships
Two Brownies from the First Devonshire Brownie Pack – Chelsea Sta. Maria and Etana Holdipp-Lynch – will receive scholarships to attend the Masterworks Art Camp this summer after designing Bermuda History Landmark badges.
A spokesperson said, “Two talented Brownies from First Devonshire Brownie Pack – Chelsea Sta. Maria and Etana Holdipp-Lynch – have made history by designing Bermuda History Landmark badges that they and their Brownie Troupe will wear with pride.
“Both girls attended an African Diaspora History Walk in St. George’s with their troupe and tour guides Maxine Esdaille and Juneia Jeffers, their Brown Owl and Commissioner Verginia Simmons, and parents.
“They then participated in a History Diaspora Quiz created by Snowy Owl, Pink Pillars Visions Historian, Juneia Jeffers, and a Venture Badge Design Competition they took online. Chelsea and Etana were first place winners. As one of the numerous prizes, their badge designs of St. George’s Town Hall and St. David’s Lighthouse were sent to Bermuda Embroidery and transferred onto badges for their peers in Brownies.
“They were further rewarded with a three hour History Taxi Tour conducted by history educator and certified taxi tour guide Mr. Eric Bassett. Parents and the two winners were treated to the taxi tour, along with a pizza lunch and yogurt treats and art kits to continue their artwork.
“Etana is a student of Elliot Primary and Chelsea attends Harrington Sound Primary.
“Both artistic young ladies were honoured as part of Women’s Day observances at The Lady Asser Hut, Girl Guide Headquarters during a Dr. Seuss book party. Both will receive scholarships to attend the Masterworks Art Camp this summer and will be introduced to local artists for mentoring.”
