Kiwanis To Present “Hero Of Year” Award
The Kiwanis Club of St George’s is reactivating the “Hero of the Year” award, and the 2017 honoree will be feted at a dinner on Thursday, February 15th at the St George’s Club, with a special plaque to be presented to this year’s recipient.
Kiwanis St George spokesman, Daron Lowe, explained that the nominees considered were those who not only tried to save a potential victim, but also put their own lives at risk in doing so.
“The 2017 awardee will be revealed on 15 February, and while the club’s main thrust is “Serving the Children of the World”, from time to time Kiwanis St George does recognize significant beneficial actions by adults,” the group said.
“The last recipient of the award was [then] Police Inspector Anthony Mouchette, who successfully talked a lady out of jumping from a high cliff along East Broadway in Hamilton.
“Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers, dedicated to improving the world – one child and one community at a time.”
