Minister Caines: EMO Is Monitoring Weather
Minister of National Security, Wayne Caines tonight [March 2] said the Emergency Measures Organisation [EMO] is monitoring current weather conditions, which are expected to deteriorate later this evening.
According to the Bermuda Weather Service [BWS] a Gale Warning is in effect through Sunday morning, and a Storm Warning for Saturday morning. Additionally, residents can expect to experience thunderstorms and storm force winds tomorrow, with weather gradually improving on Sunday.
Minister Caines, who is also Chairman of the EMO said, “The BWS indicated that that sustained winds could reach 50 knots, gusting to hurricane force, 64 knots. There is also the concern of higher than usual tides. The public should know that we are preparing for every eventuality.
“In that regard, engineering personnel from the Ministry of Public Works will be on site tomorrow morning monitoring the Causeway. And as a public safety precaution, I want to urge motorists, particularly cyclists, to exercise extreme caution when travelling the roads tomorrow.”
“Minister Caines encouraged residents to stay abreast of updates from the BWS as well as public transportation updates regarding buses and ferries today and tomorrow.”
