Court: 31-Year-Old Man Pleads Guilty To Assault
Appearing in Magistrates Court, a 31-year-old man pleaded guilty to assaulting a man on Front Street on May 17.
The assault by Treadwell Smith was captured in a video that went viral online following the incident, with the footage showing Mr. Smith striking the victim multiple times before kicking him in the face.
Mr. Smith alleged that the incident occurred after the victim made sexual comments to him, and told the Court that after he viewed the video, he realized what he did was wrong and apologized for his actions.
Magistrate Tyrone Chin ordered pre-sentencing reports, granted him bail with directions he have no contact with complainant, and required that he re-appear in June for sentencing.
