Preschool Steps Back In Time For Heritage Day

May 30, 2018

Aerie’s Adventures Nursery & Preschool were recently invited to celebrate Heritage Day at Carter House by Venita Smith and Ronnie Chameau, with the young students getting a chance to ‘step back in time’ and learn how people lived centuries ago.

A spokesperson said, “The children were dressed in 1800 period costumes and were taken back into time by Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Chameau. Mrs. Chameau told the children that back in the day children had to create their own toys. She showed them how to make a banana doll and helped the older children to participate in skipping and hopscotch.

“In addition to the games, the children were given a history lesson about the various artifacts within Carter House. They also had an opportunity to visit the thatched roof house on the property.

“The children were treated to an old fashioned lunch in a brown paper bag consisting of sandwiches, fruit and cookies which were provided by Mrs. Smith and friends. Old fashioned root beer was also provided by Mrs. Barbara Richardson.

“The children had a wonderful day and would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Venita Smith, Mrs. Ronnie Chameau, John Barritts & Sons [for providing our Heritage Day sign] and the Carter House ladies who gave us the grand tour.”

Nice to see they can experience their heritage and culture, but when they get older and understand the truth of their past………………..

Love the way these kids are dressed….what happened to our kids today? Why can’t they get dressed up like did back in the day? Where has all the pride gone?
