Back To School Uniform & Supply Drive

Three Government departments have teamed up with the Coalition for the Protection of Children [Charity #334], to launch a ‘Back to School’ school uniform and supply drive next month.

The Department of Financial Assistance, the Department of Workforce Development and the Department of Child and Family Services have joined forces with the Coalition to ensure that school children start the school year with the tools they need to succeed.

They are seeking gently-used or new school uniform donations as well as new shoes, sneakers and socks for public school children of all ages.

Drop-off for donations will be at the Seventh Day Adventist Church Hall, King Street, Hamilton from 10am until 6pm from August 13th – 17th.

Families who are in need will then be able to collect school clothes for their child[ren] from August 20th – 24th at the Seventh Day Adventist Church Hall, King Street, Hamilton from 10am until 6pm.

The Director of Financial Assistance Ms Pandora Glasford said, “The Department of Financial Assistance is pleased to partner in this initiative to ensure that the children in our programs are afforded the opportunity to be gifted school uniforms and supplies.

“We appreciate the support from businesses and individuals – thank you for making a difference in your community. By providing school supplies, you are supporting students, teachers and our public schools and instilling confidence in our children by removing a portion of the stress they often carry through not knowing how they will survive the school year without being sufficiently equipped.

“The Department of Financial Assistance does its very best to provide the tools and resources required to strengthen families as they endeavour to move towards financial self-sufficiency. These are wonderful families doing the best that they can do. This school uniform and supply drive is a nice complement to our teams’ efforts.”

The Department of Workforce Development have engaged college students to help with clothing drop-off, pickup and general organization, as a community service project for the Government’s Summer Employment Programme.

Kelly Hunt, Executive Director of the Coalition for the Protection of Children, said: “With many of our families struggling financially, back to school can be a very stressful time in terms of providing all the necessary uniform and material requirements for our students.

“We are thrilled to be working with the agencies involved to provide a more efficient, wrap-around service for our clients. Through collaborations such as this, we can better assist those who need our support. We are truly grateful for the community’s help with this effort.”
