Gold Cup: Historic Victory Against Nicaragua!
[Updated with video] The Bermuda football team made an exceptional showing against Nicaragua in the Gold Cup tonight [June 24] claiming a 2-0 win, with goals from Lejaun Simmons and Nahki Wells, with the team earning the historic victory in front of a large group of traveling fans in New Jersey.
The entire team played a first class game, reiterating the fact that the Gombey Warriors can more than hold their own at this very high level of international competition.
This year was the first time Bermuda had qualified for the Concacaf Gold Cup — which is the most prestigious regional football competition for our area — hence this marks the first Gold Cup victory in Bermuda’s history.
The game was held in New Jersey and a large contingent of Bermudians were in attendance and they erupted into celebrations, waving their Bermuda flags as the team claimed the momentous victory.
We expect to have additional coverage and are providing live updates here.
CONGRATULATIONS BERMUDA!!! Well done..
Go BERUDA!!!!! I watch you against Brazil as well. Very, Very PROUD!!! Of this team! PROUD TO BE BERMUDIAN:)
BERMUDA
Well done Bermuda, a good clean game, you all looked so great, proud to be a Bermudian tonight, wish I could have been their to see you young stars..
Impressive! They had a vision before they left, and saw through! Outstanding!
Had a vision? What was the vision that they saw through? 11 shots on target, 16 shots off target and 4 goals in 3 games knocked out at the group stages and 3 points against Nicaragua? Who is Nicaragua? We had 4 players that play in Europe and another one that has played in Europe and all we managed was 3 points against Nicaragua. Nicaragua have none in Europe. If Bermudians can say that they are proud of the performance then that says it all about Bermuda football.
Well done team Bermuda. You have made us all proud!
