Police: 16-Year-Old Pedestrian Struck By Truck

A 16-year-old pedestrian was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment of “potentially serious injuries” after being struck by truck in Southampton this morning [Oct 2].

A police spokesperson said, “Around 6:50am Wednesday, October 2nd police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service and ambulance personnel were dispatched to a reported serious collision involving a Works & Engineering truck and a pedestrian on Middle Road in Southampton near the junction with Whale Bay Road.

“It appears that a 16-year-old girl was attempting to cross Middle Road using the pedestrian crossing when she was struck by the truck.

“Although the injured teen was said to be conscious and alert following the impact, she was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of potentially serious injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

“The truck driver was not hurt.

“Traffic was reduced to one lane in the area while the scene was processed, causing delays for morning commuters in the area.

“Inquiries continue and any witnesses are encouraged to call the main police telephone number 295-0011 as soon as possible.”
