Football: Shield & Friendship Semi-Finals
Flanagan’s Onions and the Devonshire Cougars have advanced to the Shield and Friendship finals after semi-final matches at the PHC Stadium.
Shield Semi-Final: Flanagan’s Onions 3 – Vasco 1
The Flanagan’s Onions got second half goals much to the displeasure of Vasco as they advanced to the New Years Day Shield Final.
Zion Simmons gave the Flanagan’s Onions the lead in the 11th minute, but Ricardo Ponte equalized for Vasco in the 39th minute as the teams went to the break deadlocked at 1 – 1.
The 58th minute saw the Onions take the lead as a ball up the sideline went out off a Vasco defender; while the defender and his teammates appealed for the throw, Flanagan’s Onions took the throw and resulted in a one on one with the goalkeeper and Seth Campbell kept his cool and slotted the ball home.
A lapse saw Flanagan’s Onions score a third as a free kick saw only Flanagan’s Onions players react to Vasco’s goalkeeper Paulo Flora pushing the ball onto the crossbar; a ball was then played backwards and Akim Johnston was on hand to score from close range in the 88th minute.
Friendship Semi-Final: Devonshire Cougars 2 – Somerset Eagles 0
The Devonshire Cougars booked their ticket to the New Years Day Friendship Final with a 2 – 0 win over the Somerset Eagles. Shakii Pearman gave the Devonshire Cougars the lead in the 15th minute, which was the only goal of the half.
Elisha Darrell doubled the lead when he had a give and go with Allan Douglas Jr and scored in the 81st minute.
