Rotary Club Christmas Essay Contest Winners

The Pembroke Rotary Club has announced the winners of its Christmas essay competition, along with those who received honourable mentions.

A spokesperson said, “For the past four years, the Pembroke Rotary club has sponsored a Christmas essay competition, open to students of all schools in elementary, middle and senior levels.

“The chairperson for this even, Dr. Shangri-La Durham-Thompson on behalf of our president Mr. Granville Nusum, is pleased to announce this year’s winners and those who received honourable mentions.

“On Thursday, January 9, the students, their parents, principals and teachers will be invited to the 7.30am Rotary breakfast at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club where they will be presented with their prizes and certificates. At this time, the students will also read their winning essays.

“The winners and those receiving honourable mentions are as follows:

  • Primary School Winner: Ava Chloe Simons of Harrington Sound
  • Honourable Mention: Esther Jeremy of Prospect Primary
  • Middle School Winner: Julie Elliot of Mount St. Agnes
  • Honourable Mention: Liana Franco of Mount St. Agnes
  • Senior School Winner: Anaya Minors of the Berkeley Institute
  • Honourable Mention: Gabriel Todd of Warwick Academy

“The judges for this event were Mr. Gary Edwards a member of the Pembroke Rotary Club; Mrs. Annette Boyle, retired teacher; and Mrs. Levyette Robinson, Foreign Languages Officer at the Department of Education.

“We are encouraged that students and teachers take the time each year to consider the elements of Rotary’s Four Way Test.”
