Registrar Of Supreme Court Approved Jurors Notice Available At The General Post Office And All Sub Post Offices

Jurors Act 1971

Pursuant to Section 11 of the Jurors Act 1971, I HEREBY GIVE NOTICE that copies of the Approved List will be available at the General Post Office and at all sub post offices for inspection by interested persons, free of charge, from Monday, 8th February 2021 to Friday, 26th March 2021 [both dates inclusive] each weekday from 8:30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Any person who is aggrieved by the inclusion of his name in the Approved List and who claims to be exempt from or disqualified for jury service is invited to apply to the Registrar in the manner provided in Section 12 of the Jurors Act 1971.

Every person whose name is included in the Approved List shall be liable to serve as a Juror, notwithstanding that he might have claimed exemption or disqualification, if he fails to make such claim by Friday, 26th February 2021.

Note: Section 12 of the Jurors Act is set out below:-

12. [1] If any person claims that owing to some disqualifications or exemption his name should not be included in the Approved List, he may within the period specified in the sub section [1] of Section 12, apply in writing to the Registrar to have his name struck off the Approved List.

[2] The Registrar shall as soon as may be, take each such application into consideration and within seven days after receiving the application -

  • [a] in any case where he is satisfied that the applicant is disqualified or exempt from liability for jury service, shall strike off the applicant’s name accordingly; and
  • [b] in every case shall inform the applicant of his decision in the matter.

[3] If the Registrar refuses to comply with an application made under sub section [1], the applicant may within seven days next after the date on which the refusal of the Registrar is notified to him, apply by notice in writing to the Registrar, to a Judge in Chambers for declaration that his name ought not to be included in the Approved List and pending the making of an order the Judge under sub section [4], the name of the applicant shall be deemed not to be included in the Approved List.

[4] A Judge in Chambers shall deal with any such application in a summary way and make such order in the matter as appears just and

Large Group Exemption Mirrors Junior Forum Super Camp

Public Health [Covid-19 Emergency Powers] Amendment [No.2] Regulations 2021 Large Group Exemption:

Mirrors Junior Forum Super Camp

Whereas the Minister of National Security considers that the proposed Mirrors Junior Forum Super Camp is justifying an exemption from the prohibition in Regulation 5 [1] and [2] of the Public Health [COVID-19 Emergency Powers] Amendment [No. 2] Regulations 2021 on groups of more than twenty-five persons assembling;

Now, therefore, the Minister grants an exemption under Regulation 5 [4] of those Regulations to Kimberley Jackson [Mirrors Programme Coordinator] permitting a group of more than twenty-five persons to assemble Saturday February 6 and Friday February 12, 2021 between 8:30 am and 7:00 pm [each day] at Whitney Institute Middle School, Smith Parish with the following conditions:

Conditions:

  • The Letter of No Objection for the mass gathering must be posted at the entrance and clearly visible and kept on file to be made available upon requests.
  • All persons attending the Mirrors Junior Forum Super Camp must maintain appropriate physical distancing which is described as; maintaining a distance between all persons who are not members of the same household of at least –
    • six feet; or
    • three feet, provided each person is wearing a mask which completely covers their nose and mouth, and follow any relevant guidance.
  • Maximum number of attendees – Maximum of 80 persons [inclusive of students and staff]
  • Recording of names and contact information of persons attending the event for the purpose of contact tracing. Information to be retained for 28 days post-date of the event.
  • Adherence to all applicable COVID 19 Health Guidelines as issued by the Ministry of Health.
  • The Ministry of National Security reserves the right to withdraw the permission to have more than twenty-five persons assembled at the event without notice or cost to the Bermuda Government subject to the status of COVID 19 in the local community.
  • The Bermuda Police Service / Ministry of National Security Official have right to attend and observe compliance of the conditions as prescribed above.
