“Through this agreement, the UK, in consultation with the Government of Bermuda, may request immediate assistance from the United States to assist the UK and Bermuda in responding to a security threat or incident.”

Deputy Governor Alison Crockett said, “This has been an excellent opportunity for Bermuda, the U.S. and the UK to work together, learn from each other and cooperate to ensure that Bermuda has the best possible response to any external risks that may come its way.”

The spokesperson said, “With its close geographical proximity to the island, the United States can quickly respond to a crisis with military deployments, law enforcement support, intelligence, communication and technical capabilities.

“In the initial hours of a crisis, U.S. and Bermuda leaders will be able to draw from agreed-upon protocols and options outlined in the Memorandum, which will be regularly reviewed and revised as needed. Building on strong, longstanding relationships, the Memorandum enables all parties to rapidly respond to a threat or crisis.”

U.S. Consul General Karen Grissette said, “This agreement demonstrates our commitment to working collaboratively with the UK and Bermuda. The United States has no stronger partnership than that with the United Kingdom. Cooperation and integration among partner nations is critical to confronting transnational challenges, and the United States continues to value its longstanding relationship with Bermuda.”

The spokesperson said, “Minister of National Security Renee Ming, was pleased to join Her Excellency the Governor and the U.S. Consul General to ratify this important agreement of assistance between security officials in Bermuda and the United States.”

Minister Ming said, “Whilst we hope that an incident will not affect Bermuda, it is essential that we remain prepared and have plans in place to respond to any adverse incidents that may occur.

“It is comforting to know that if needed we can seek assistance from the United States and I look forward to the continued cooperation between our respective agencies.”

  1. Ugly Truth says:

We do NOT want US law enforcement in Bermuda!

What intelligence are they not sharing with the public that has facilitated this agreement?

    • Angus says:

Never know what you need until you need it, so better to be ahead of the game. With tensions escalating and the fact that hypersonic missiles potentially have a range in excess of 1,200 miles, is Bermuda a potential launch pad?

The pentagon is only 825 miles away from Bermuda. The white house a little further but in range. China and Russia have hypersonic missiles.

  2. Making Sense says:

How can the US be trusted when it contrived along wit Ewart Brown and David Burch to smuggle 4 Uighur men into Bermuda. In doing so did not even inform Bermuda’s Cabinet. Further, Th US knowingly bypassed the U.K, a so called friend and ally, to get permission to do so. Further, all other countries were given up to $5,000,000 per person for accepting a prisoner from Cuba. What happened to that money? Who received that. I do not believe in a million years that this was a purely humanitarian. NO WAY!!!!!! To bad we cannot prove this one way or the other.
