Review: “Creatives Live” Features Cindy Smith
[Written by Dale Butler]
With a shortage of nightclubs and hotels for the performing arts, the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs is taking the lead with its “Creatives Live” series of entertainment on the steps of the City Hall in Hamilton. Taking centre stage on Friday, March 18th was Cindy Smith, a member of The Wall Street Band. Robert Edwards, the leader of that band sat with pride as she gave the audience a taste of her vast skills as a singer, with show-stopping tunes:
- “You Could’ve Had It All”
- Erykah Badu: “Tyrone”
- Whitney Houston: “I Have Nothing”
- Adele: “Easy On Me” and “Rolling in the Deep”, to name but a few.
Cindy has been singing since the age of five and can add numerous engagements to her repertoire:
- The choir of The New Testament Church Healing Centre
- Carifest 2017
- Color Purple – Bermuda
- Dream Girls – Bermuda
Cindy had a commanding presence as she sang favourites enjoyed by a group of visiting Columbia University students, locals on their lunch breaks and her fan club of over a dozen enthusiastic friends who danced and shouted for an encore, which she deserved. You almost wondered why she was still in Bermuda when the world is her oyster.
Be that as it may, with her potential, local playwrights and producers have yet another voice to incorporate in their productions which would ensure Broadway success because she has that in her blood.
As always, Graham Mawer, Cultural Liaison and Development Officer, Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, used his crystal ball to pick a perfect day for an artist who stepped out with confidence, eager to perform. The flowers and accolades that surrounded her after an encore “Don’t Stop The Music” was worth it, and I have no doubt she has a bright future. So, get her autograph now!
