Tropical Storm “Not A Threat At This Time”
Tropical Storm Fiona — the 6th named storm of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season — is “not a threat to Bermuda at this time”, the Bermuda Weather Service said, with its closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hours forecast to be 872 nm to the south at 6am on Sunday [Sept 18], with the BWS noting that “this system may move closer to Bermuda after this time period depending upon its track.”

The latest forecast from the U.S. National Hurricane Center said, “At 800 AM AST [1200 UTC], the center of Tropical Storm Fiona was located near latitude 16.6 North, longitude 53.6 West.
“Fiona is moving toward the west near 13 mph [20 km/h], and this general motion is expected to continue for the next several days. On the forecast track, the center of Fiona is forecast to move through the Leeward Islands late Friday and Friday night, and move near the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico this weekend.
“Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph [85 km/h] with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next few days. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles [220 km] to the east of the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1002 mb [29.59 inches].”

The usual ‘not a threat at this time’ , well of course it isn’t . It’s a long way from us and a weak tropical system , at this time.
However they know very well that at the end of next week long range predictions show it very much as a threat !
