College President Dr. Duranda Greene To Retire
Bermuda College President Dr. Duranda Greene will retire at the end of this academic year.
A spokesperson said, “Chairman of the Bermuda College Board of Governors, Jerome Reid, today announced the retirement of College President, Dr. Duranda Greene, at the end of this academic year.
“Dr. Greene, an alumna of the College, came to the presidency in 2007 after a steady climb through the ranks at the College. She has served as a faculty member in the Department of Business, Dean of Business & Hospitality, Assistant to the President for Special Projects, and ultimately, president. She holds the distinction of being one of the longest serving employees at the College, as well as being its first female and youngest president.
“During her tenure as President, Dr. Greene has led the College through: international accreditation and re-accreditation with the New England Commission of Higher Education [NECHE]; the development and implementation of two strategic plans; and the introduction of various new programmes including nursing, diagnostic imaging technology, marine science and compliance. She also established the Bermuda College Foundation as a separate incorporated company to fundraise on behalf of Bermuda College. As a result of the Foundation’s fundraising efforts, a new Career Development Centre was recently built on the campus.”
Mr. Reid noted, “I wish to thank Dr. Greene for 37 years of distinguished service to this institution in her various remits, as well as the valuable contributions she has made to the local and overseas communities in her presidential capacity. Through her outstanding leadership, she has positioned Bermuda College, as the Island’s only tertiary education institution, to take full advantage of opportunities that present themselves, and has created a strong legacy of academic and financial progress for the institution.”
The spokesperson said, “The Board of Governors has begun the critical steps of a presidential search and job advertisements will be posted shortly.”
