NMB To Host Free Community Day On Feb 26

The National Museum of Bermuda [NMB] will be hosting a free Community Day on Sunday, February 26.

A spokesperson said, “There will be food vendors and door prizes and a multitude of free activities for all ages. Sponsored by BF&M, this Community Day is part of Free for February which gives all residents free admission to the Museum during the entire month of February, also sponsored by BF&M.

“NMB Community Day activities will run from 11am to 3pm and the Museum will be open for free for everyone [residents and visitors] all day, 10am to 5pm. Yoga teacher Lisa Wingood will teach a yoga-inspired breathing and movement class open to all ages and abilities. Bermudian artist Ronnie Chameau will teach palmetto weaving, joined in Queen’s Exhibition Hall by artist and educator Louisa Bermingham who will be conducting a hands-on art activity, featuring objects from the NMB collection. Dolphin Quest will do a free demonstration in the Keep Pond.

“Local artist Graham Foster will be on site in Commissioner’s House at the Hall of History to share information and answer questions about his famous 1,000 square foot mural that details Bermuda’s 500 years of history in art. The Warwick Gombeys will close the Community Day with a festive air, performing in the Keep Yard at 2:30pm.

“All day activities include archery lessons in the Keep Yard with Cynthia Semos, family activity guides to dive deeper into Bermuda history and NMB exhibits [pick up in the NMB Ticket Office or download at www.nmb.bm/freeforfebruary], a “Black History in Bermuda” digital tour on the app Smartify [free download on any smart phone] and Q&A with the NMB curatorial team, who will provide information on Museum projects like Bermuda Family Scrapbook and exhibits such as Homestead by artist Meredith Andrews: a contemporary photography exhibit featuring large format portraits of Bermudian families in front of their homesteads [also paired with audio content on the Smartify app].

“Butterfield & Vallis are kindly providing free beverages and FourWays will have free beef and vegetarian chili stations in Commissioner’s House. Dockyard Brewing will be pouring free samples of two of their local craft beers in the Keep Yard. Other vendors will be in the Keep Yard will include Jazzy’s Treats, Pacos Tacos and Cafecito with food and drinks for sale.”

NMB Advancement Officer Katie Bennett shared: “We are so excited to host our first ever Community Day during Free for February [now in its tenth year], and we are thrilled to have BF&M’s sponsorship for the second year in a row of this community programme. “To take advantage of Free for February, Bermuda residents should bring proof of residency such as a driver’s license or utility bill. The Community Day is free for all residents and non-residents, no identification is required.

“Bermuda residents who visit during Free for February can enter a weekly raffle to win a free family membership.
