Ministry: Seniors Strategy Forum A Success
The Ministry of Youth, Social Development, and Seniors said the Public Consultation meetings and National Seniors Strategy Community Forum “were a success.”
The meetings and forum brought together stakeholders, community members, and seniors to discuss and address the challenges and opportunities facing Bermuda’s ageing population.
“It is important to tap into the wisdom of seniors to inform future strategies. Participants engaged in meaningful discussions, sharing their views on various topics, including healthcare, social services, housing, and community engagement. These engagements have provided a platform for highlighting examples of positive ageing, proposing innovative solutions, and identifying areas of concern.” said the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors Tinée Furbert.
“The insights, experiences, and perspectives shared will help to shape the foundation upon which our three-year National Seniors Strategy will be developed. The strategy aims to address the most pressing issues facing our seniors. Therefore, it was crucial to host public consultation sessions to hear the voices of our seniors, both present and future, so the strategy is reflective of lived experiences; and so that the strategy is, more importantly, relevant.”
Minister Furbert concluded, “The Ministry extends its appreciation to everyone who attended our senior group consultations and forum. The engagement and insights shared have been inspiring. Thank you to the officers from Ageing and Disability Services and Bermuda Health Council, who comprised the National Seniors Strategy Team, for their dedication and efforts in steering this important initiative.”
A spokesperson added, “Moving forward, the Ministry will continue to work closely with stakeholders and community partners to finalize the National Seniors Strategy, ensuring that it reflects the voices and experiences shared during the forum. Once the Draft Strategy is available, it will be shared publicly for consultation. The strategy will serve as our guide to enhancing the quality of life for seniors and creating a more age-friendly society in Bermuda.”
