Harbour Nights Eco-Friendly Initiatives Unveiled
Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, alongside local organizations and the City of Hamilton, unveiled new eco-friendly initiatives for Harbour Nights.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce significant steps toward making Harbour Nights an eco-friendlier event. These initiatives represent a collaboration with key local organisations and the City of Hamilton, emphasising sustainable practices and environmental responsibility.
Simplifying Recycling with the City of Hamilton
“In an effort to streamline waste management and promote recycling, the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce and the City of Hamilton aim to make recycling more accessible and efficient during Harbour Nights, reducing the event’s overall environmental footprint.
“A spokesperson for the City of Hamilton said, “The City is proud to be a longstanding major sponsor and supporter of Harbour Nights and commends the Chamber of Commerce for leveraging their influence and ingenuity to encourage more environmentally conscious practices for the 2024 Harbour Nights season. The Chamber’s strategies to further recycling efforts and foster a more sustainably conscious community mindset will undoubtedly have a tangible impact on local sustainability efforts overall. We fully support them in this endeavour as we echo the call to be more environmentally aware as collective stewards of this planet.
“Educational Collaboration with Keep Bermuda Beautiful and Beyond Plastic Understanding that education is key to sustainable change, the Chamber has joined forces with Keep Bermuda Beautiful [KBB] and Beyond Plastic for a free information session for vendors on Wednesday, 1st May. This session will provide valuable insights into sustainable business practices and practical tips on reducing environmental impact.”
Traci Burgess, Executive Director with Keep Bermuda Beautiful, said, “KBB is thrilled to support the Chamber’s efforts to reduce waste, promote recycling and make their events more sustainable. KBB and our colleagues at Beyond Plastic Bermuda encourage everyone to think sustainably and support local vendors. We appreciate all of the businesses that are taking steps to lessen their environmental footprint by providing eco-friendly products and packaging.”
Incentivising Sustainability with Vendor Fee Discounts
The spokesperson said, “To further encourage vendors to adopt sustainable practices, the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce is proud to offer a discount of up to 15% discount on vendor fees. This discount will be available to vendors who demonstrate significant efforts in integrating sustainable practices into their operations.”
Danielle Riviere, CEO of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, emphasises the Chamber’s commitment to sustainability, stating, “Our initiative to ofer a discount on vendor fees is a testament to our dedication to not just talk about sustainability, but actively foster it. By incentivising our vendors, we hope to create a ripple effect that encourages broader adoption of environmentally responsible practices throughout our community.”

The spokesperson said, “Harbour Nights 2024 will run from the 15th of May to the 28th of August, and we invite all current and prospective vendors and the public to participate in the event and witness our new sustainability efforts. Together, we can make a significant difference in how events are conducted, prioritising the health of our planet and future generations.
