Minister Weeks Urges Safety During Holiday
Minister of National Security Michael Weeks is encouraging the public to ensure safety and responsibility during the National Heroes Day weekend.
A Government spokesperson said, “As Bermuda approaches the much-anticipated National Heroes Day weekend, Minister of National Security Michael Weeks wishes all residents and visitors a safe and enjoyable holiday.”
Minister Weeks said, “This weekend, filled with carnival events and celebrations, offers an opportunity for us to come together and honour the heroes who have shaped our island.
“However, I must also address a critical aspect of our communal responsibility. Holidays are typically a time when we see a rise in incidents of violence and anti-social behaviour.
“Tragically, during the last holiday, we experienced a fatal act of violence in broad daylight. Such incidents cast a dark shadow over our celebrations and remind us of the need for vigilance and responsibility.
“To those who may be tempted to engage in violence, I implore you to reconsider your actions. Violence is never the answer; it only harms our community and tarnishes the spirit of the festivities.
“For those celebrating, I urge you to do so responsibly. Reckless behaviour, such as drinking and driving, poses a grave danger not only to yourselves but to everyone on our roads.
“Furthermore, I call upon all residents to be vigilant and proactive. If you witness any suspicious or violent behaviour, please do not hesitate to report it to the police. Your cooperation is vital in maintaining a safe environment for everyone.
“Remember, if you see something, say something. Your actions could prevent a potential tragedy and protect our community. Stay safe, Bermuda, and have a wonderful National Heroes Day weekend.”
