Bermuda Sandcastles Mark Cup Match Holiday
The Bermuda Sandcastle Competition marked the Cup Match holiday with a number of sandcastles featuring tree frogs, the Cup Match trophy, and more.
The Bermuda Sandcastle Competition posted the images below online and said, “It’s Cup Match time in Bermuda. Jam Bermuda! Does anyone else have this song playing in their heads on repeat this week? For those who don’t know, Cup Match is our island’s biggest four-day holiday every year on the first weekend of August.
“It’s a celebration of the emancipation of slavery, where one end of the island challenges the other to a two-day-long cricket match. The rivalry is strong, and a whole month before the game, people wear team colours in support and swap good-natured comments on the other side.
“So, who do you stand with? St Georges, blue and blue, or Somerset, red and blue [cough cough, clear winners]? Let the smack talk and games begin!”
