Bermuda U14 Win Three Awards At CFU
Bermuda’s under-14 boys’ team placed second in Tier II of the 2024 Caribbean Football Union Challenge Series Qualifiers and also earned three awards; Jeon Wolfe finished as the tournament’s top scorer with 10 goals, Xavier Thomas-Bassett was named the tournament’s best goalkeeper, and Carter Thomas was awarded the MVP for the Tier II Final.
A BFA spokesperson said, “In a thrilling final at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bermuda’s under-14 boys’ team fell to Barbados on penalty kicks, 4-3, after a scoreless draw in regulation time. The defeat marked a heartbreaking end to their unbeaten run in Tier II of the 2024 Caribbean Football Union [“CFU”] Boys’ U-14 Challenge Series Qualifiers.
“Despite dominating much of the match, Bermuda was unable to convert their chances into goals. Zydon Lightbourne Furbert, Amai Harvey, and Jeon Wolfe had several opportunities to break the deadlock but were unable to capitalize.
“Barbados, on the other hand, defended stoutly and were resilient in the face of Bermuda’s persistent attacks. Their goalkeeper, Jamari Watson, made several key saves to keep the score level. The match went to penalties, where Barbados proved to be more clinical.
“While the defeat was a bitter pill to swallow, Bermuda’s performance throughout the CFU’s Boys Under 14 Challenge Series was commendable. Jeon Wolfe finished as the tournament’s top scorer with 10 goals, while Xavier Thomas-Bassett was named the tournament’s best goalkeeper, and Carter Thomas was awarded the Most Valuable Player for the Tier II Final.”
