Wightman & Carey Honoured At Ceremony
The Peace and Social Justice Ministry of Bermuda’s Roman Catholic Church held their annual Peace and Social Justice Award Ceremony, honouring Arthur Wightman and Denise Carey of Home Bermuda for their dedication to addressing homelessness in Bermuda.
Chairperson Joanne Wohlmuth said, “The Peace and Social Justice Ministry of the Roman Catholic Church in Hamilton, Bermuda held its 10th Peace and Social Justice Award Ceremony on Friday, October 25th at St. Theresa’s Church Hall on Laffan Street.
“This year’s awardees were Arthur Wightman [founder] and Denise Carey [Executive Director] of Home Bermuda.
“Mr. Wightman and Ms. Carey are awarded this year for their ingenuity, passion and courage to challenge both themselves and the Bermuda community to accept the cause of one of our most vulnerable people, the homeless, and to fight for them, for their needs and inclusion, as a social justice imperative to end homelessness in Bermuda.
“This year’s awardees were preceded by the following recipients: Dr. Barbara Ball [2008]; The Progressive Group [2009]; Dr. Dorothy Thompson [2010]; Monsignor Felipe Macedo [2012]; Mrs Gladys Missick Morrell [2014]; Dr. E.F. Gordon [2016]; Dr. Claudette Fleming [2017]; Mr. Stuart Hayward [2019]; and Mrs. Debi Ray-Rivers [2023].
“This event was free and open to the public to attend.”
