Shaun Goater Appointed Interim Manager
Shaun Goater has taken the coaching reins at Aston Villa Women in the Women’s Super League [WSL] in England.
The 53-year-old has replaced Dutchman Robert de Pauw, who was sacked by the West Midlands club yesterday [December 11].
In a statement the club said, “Aston Villa Women can confirm that Manager Robert de Pauw has left the club with immediate effect. The 43-year-old was appointed ahead of the 2024/25 season having previously held managerial roles at FC Twente and Bayer Leverkusen.
“We would like to thank Robert for his commitment during his time in charge and wish him well for the future.Shaun Goater will be in charge until a new manager is appointed and will be supported by the wider coaching team.”
Goater, who joined Villa’s coaching staff from Manchester City Women at the start of the season, took charge of his first game last night, a 4-1 win at home to Chalton Athletic in the Women’s League Cup.
Villa, who are home to West Ham United Women on Sunday, have won one league game this season and are one point above bottom-placed Crystal Palace.
In a statement on the club’s website, Villa said Goater will be in charge “until a new manager is appointed and will be supported by the wider coaching team”.
Goater, who holds a Uefa A licence coaching badge, has previously coached North Village in the Bermudian Premier Division and English non-league sides Ilkeston and New Mills.
