St George’s Newsletter Highlights Love & History
The Corporation of St. George’s February newsletter celebrates love and Black History, recognizing key local figures and highlighting Town events.
A spokesperson said, “The Corporation of St. George’s celebrates the month of love and Black History in the Town’s February newsletter.
“This month’s newsletter is a dual celebration of love and Black History. John Stephenson is recognized for his contributions to Bermuda’s Black history and his role in the Town of St. George. It also highlights Dr. E. F. Gordon and Sir E.T. Richards. This year, with America’s national removal of diversity, Bermuda’s recognition of Black history is especially timely. While there are many stories that contribute to Bermuda’s Black history, the newsletter aims to showcase the diversity of these efforts, which include contributions from an Irishman, a Trinidadian, and Guyanese. Their contributions to the welfare of Bermuda all required hard work, sacrifice, and dedication.
“The Corporation of St. George’s publishes a newsletter each month, covering various town related matters such as road maintenance, municipal projects, and an open invitation to attend the monthly General Council Meeting held on the fourth Thursday of every month. The public can visit: corpstgeorge.bm/newsletters to read the past newsletter.”
Candy-Lee Foggo, Town Manager, states, “We started our newsletter to enhance communication on Town issues and to spotlight relevant stories that explain some of the inner workings of the Town, as well as its people, businesses, and celebrations. This month, being the month of love, we highlight the love of home, town, and country and include the various restaurants participating in the Bermuda Tourism Authority’s Restaurant Weeks programme. Our spotlights feature Wong’s Golden Dragon Restaurant, Councillor Alfonso Harris, and the 25th anniversary of our UNESCO World Heritage Site status, which shines a light on St. Peter’s Church.”
The spokesperson said, “If the public would like a copy sent to them, they can sign up at corpstgeorge.bm/newsletter.”
“We try to keep it light and informative,” Foggo concludes.
