Weather Disrupts Match Play Championship
The second day of the Bermuda Match Play Championship at Port Royal Golf Course Saturday was significantly impacted by challenging weather conditions.
The organizers expressed their gratitude to everyone involved for their cooperation and understanding as the day’s schedule was subject to frequent delays and restarts.
Despite the weather-related challenges, the Men’s First Round was eventually completed. The results were as follows:
- James Godwin defeated Gordon Cox 4&3.
- Damian Palanyandi defeated Eric West 4&3.
- Oliver Betschart defeated Johnny Bart 5&3.
- Kenny Leseur defeated Dan Roy 5&4.
In contrast to the weather disruptions affecting the men’s matches, the Ladies Match Play Round Robin Tournament concluded successfully. Tracy Burgess emerged as the champion, claiming the title after a strong performance. Morgan Lightbourne finished as the runner-up, followed by Darina Betschart in third place, and Katrin Burnie in fourth.
Looking ahead to the final day of the championship, organizers have outlined a plan to complete the remaining matches. The morning will be dedicated to the two semi-final matches and the Men’s 1st Flight Round Robin, with tee times beginning at 8:00 am. Following the completion of the semi-finals, the highly anticipated final of the Men’s Match Play Championships will take place.
