BUEI’s Crab-Themed Kids Hour On May 17
BUEI’s next Kids Hour Saturday takes place on May 17 at 11am and 2pm, offering ocean-themed fun for children aged three and up with crab-focused films, storytelling, and hands-on activities.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] invites you to join us for Kids Hour this Saturday, May 17th at 11am and 2pm where we will crawl through the crafty world of crabs.
“Kids Hours, sponsored by BF&M, are held on the third Saturday of each month from January to September. Each month highlights a different ocean-themed topic and includes a short film, book reading and fun activities for children ages three and up.
“How many crabs can you count? For May, we are showing two short films: “The Crabs Go Crawling” where we join Chloe The Crab and her friends as they count to ten; and “100 Million Red Crabs On A Tropical Island” which documents the biggest crab migration in the world.
“This month’s book, ‘This is Crab’ by Harriet Evans and Jacqui Lee, is a colourfully illustrated book that uses interactive storytelling to engage readers as they are introduced to ocean wildlife.
“Activities include a crab I-Spy game, decorating your own crab shell and role playing with it, just like the Decorator Crab character in this month’s featured book. You can also visit the Oceans Gift Shop afterwards to pick up your own copy of the book, a stuffed crab and other marine science education toys that make learning fun.
“Kids Hour Saturdays are free for BUEI members and $5 per child for non-members, and includes admission to the Ocean Discovery Centre where you can immerse yourself in the expansive shell room, featuring one of the world’s largest privately owned seashell collections with more than 1,200 specimens. Also note, parents and caregivers must remain on site and supervise their children at all times.
“Space is limited and advanced registration is encouraged by emailing giftshop@buei.bm or calling 294-0204. Visit BUEI.org/kidshour to learn more and be sure to mark your calendar for June 21st when Kids Hour Saturday will poke and prod our way through the pointy world of pufferfish!”
