Kim Swan Launches Junior Golf Initiative
MP Kim Swan has launched a junior golf initiative at Dalton Tucker Primary.
Mr. Swan said, “It was a great experience returning to my Alma mater at Dalton Tucker Primary School to coach golf. I’m extremely grateful for the support of principal Shanda Simmons and James Robinson, CEO of Cactus Limited, who desire to support junior golf development was the catalyst for this initiative.
“Mr. Robinson’s involvement stemmed from a donation pledged in association with the Trustees belated 50th anniversary golf tournament held belatedly in June of 2024. Unfortunately, medical problems prevented me from actioning this worthy initiative – spearheaded by Mr Robinson – sooner, but I’m pleased to be healthy enough to execute now starting with Dalton Tucker Primary School.”
A spokesperson said, “Kim Swan thanked Mr. Jason Wade, Chairman of Bermuda Government Golf Courses [a former educator], for graciously offering the use of Port Royal Golf Course to train the students.
“The first session was conducted on the school field with MP Kim Swan, who attended Dalton Tucker Primary School in the 1960s. Ironically, Port Royal Golf Course was built on property that once housed Southampton Glebe School and the second green and sixth tee were our school fields in the 1960s.
“I consider it prophetic that two former students would win Five Bermuda Opens at Port Royal Golf Course; Kim Swan first wins three Bermuda Opens [1978, 83 & 84] and then his cousin Dwayne Pearman wins two Bermuda Opens [1986 & 96]. Other notable alumni include golf professionals Cornell Bean, Darron Swan, Bermuda PGA President Darren Woods, and amateur golfers the late Glenn Simmons, Greg Smith and others.”
Mr. Swan said, “Today we exposed the students to golf on the school field and shared with them the basics of golf and that the school as a rich history of producing many of Bermuda’s champion golfers.”
The spokesperson said, “Former Southampton Glebe now Dalton Tucker Primary School students who excelled in golf include Kim Swan, Dwayne Pearman, Glenn Simmons, Cornell Bean, Darron Swan, Camiko Smith, Gregory Smith, Darren Woods, and others.”

Mr. Swan said, “We look forward to this initiative being a success and possibly growing into a primary school golf competition. We already have plans to involve East End Primary School and I envisage a match between Dalton Tucker and East End to commemorate a famous golf rivalry that existed between prominent golf pros from these two communities 75 years ago.”
The late Walter King was very instrumental in starting the more mature professional Golfers by giving free golf lesson.They all excelled in Golf.
I bet some of the Glebers will be 3 sporters, learning early how to prioritize.
Good doing Kim
Ignore politics, Kim should be in the Kings honours for the work he has done for junior golf in Bermuda. Not just that but for child development, esteem and confidence. He was a hugely talented golfer and sometimes on a rainy day there would be my son, a couple of other kids and Kim on the range at Port Royal and you would think these kids were going to be major winners such was his enthusiasm.
